Default Baby got new shoes....

... Well, sort of.

They need some serious TLC, but given that I've had these sat in the garage for a while now taking up space, it was time to dust them off and get them sorted.

Hurdle #1 is that two of the tyres were shot, although I have 2 part worns ready to go on.

Hurdle #2 is that one of the rims has a serious ding in it. I had the tyre removed to make sure that the ding was only a ding, and wasnt actually a split across the whole wheel, which it wasnt:

Nice to see the Tyre pressure sensors in there, although no idea if they're working yet:

Tyre failure number 1 was due to a large and rather well sealing screw that was straight into the tyre. It would probably have repaired but I'm not a fan of running on repairs, and as I have LPG I have no spare to demote it to...

With the tyre off I was amazed at how light these D3 20" S8 rims are - I've held plenty of D2 rims before, but this was chalk and cheese weight wise...

Wheel number 2 was more interesting, it had a section that was well through the cords. Once the wheel was on the wheel balancer and spinning there was an obvious flat spot just before this, so presumably it has been scrubbing away at this patch unevenly for some time.

Wheel number 1 with the ding turned out to be more square than round, with the inside and outside rims needing serious attention, and wheel 3 was far from perfect.

Wheel 4 was straight and true though. Bonus.

So, on recommendation I took the lot over to these guys:

Seems they have built themselves a bespoke hydraulic press which they can use to pursuade any wheel back to good once its had any serious dings / cracks etc sorted.

So, I dropped them off on Thursday, and by Friday they were all straight and true, stripped of TPM ready for powdercoating and baking today, then TPM and vales back in, tyres on, balance and good to go.

I've gone for a black anthracite, which is really non-oem for me as you'll know but i'm hoping the end results will be good....

I'll let you know after I pick them up tonight.
