Default Owners meet in Scotland

Hi again i am in Letham near Forfar. This will be my second A8 i had a 2.8 Sport 1999 on the year . I am waiting for present owner to remove his private plate and then it should be mine by the end of November. I have had a few Audis's and Volkswagens in my time and have been to quite a few shows up and down the country and hope to do the same with the S8 !!

Well to be fair David the last few years annual meets have been -

2013 - Forest of Dean
2012 - Lake District
2011 - Warwickshire
2010 - York Area
2009 - Loughborough Area

So its been pretty evenly up and down the Country. Its always a balance of course between how many will come and trying to be varying the areas etc.
I'm sure in future years we will continue to vary where the annual meet is as its great to explore the whole of the UK!

I didnt mean to imply by "southern" that it was all home counties! Just south of Hadrian's wall. People also often forget that its 350miles from the Borders to the north of Scotland so strictly [and pedantically] speaking anything south of around Carlisle is "South".....

I must get out more but its too cold up here...

The route to Fort William will stay in my memory...... up the hill then a sudden drop and sharp right turn, left turn loooooong straight, oh man

So, I've got few questions.
How many A8s you've got on average each year, just want to get the idea of this annual meetings??
And a silly one, but what do YOU guys doing and is it a whole weekend event or ...????

Cheers

most, if not all of the meets have an after event report and pictures in the "owners meets" section which should provide you with an idea of the kind of things that go on, and makes fun reading too (IMHO) probably a good place to start

I got the idea Brian (and dont how I missed the owners meets section) and its looking very good and very interesting.

I still have got a lot to go through, but I've got one question, the answer probably is there somewhere, but I haven't got to it yet, is it a one day event or a two day event with overstay ???
Cheers

Probably either/both.
The last one had one "major" day and a follow-up day when many departed sooner or later as suited. Many arrived the preceding evening and stayed 2 nights.

We only made it for the "main day" due to elderly family commitments, but had a great time.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

That sounds good to me, I'm thinking to come with my best mate (A8 owner as well) with families for day or two and then head towards Fort William or whatever for another 3-5 days. After 10hours driving you want to make the most of it.

Do you have guys coming with families or is just strictly boys/owners only ??
I've seen few Mrs during one of the event so I assume this would be fine ??
(I'm thinking to get the ladies far away from the cars to do some sightseeing so boys can have fun and collect them later on before heading to the hotel)

The format/content for the 2014 meeting has yet to be decided but The Laird, BrianG and myself (who have been tasked with organising "a Scottish meet") will be meeting up again soon to try and thrash out the proposed program for the June weekend (6th-8th). The Sunday is "Whit Sunday" but the Monday is not down as a UK holiday - but is for several European countries so the German A8 Freunde boys may well make it again. (Though wasnt there something about Scotty having sold his '8?)

As to the format, we really try to make these events family friendly, so better halves (SWMBO or HWMBO) are very welcome, as are kids. Although there will be a fair collection of old f***s talking car bollox some of the time, there will be scenic drives (not races or treasure hunts), stops at places of interest (a distillery tour will be a must) and meals together (with some kind of quiz usually).

As I'm helping to organise it this year, SWMBO will be expecting it to be worth attending! So please bring friends and family - we look forward to meeting you all!
