And we have success, normal behaviour restored to Mediaplayer 1, and Mediaplayer 2 now scans correctly.

I did have to add Mediaplayer 1 back to the can gateway installation list as it was reporting incorrectly coded because the box was not ticked.

Well done Mannyo.
Where there is a will there is occasionally a way round the prob.

Now I know that I am not the only one without a clean fault log!!!

Now I am trying to put the car back together properly, and failing miserably.

I have got the CD changer back in place, all clipped in nicely but the AMI does not want to play ball. The module seems to be getting pivoting on something in the front of the slot, I can get either the left of the right side in but not both at the same time. I've tried applying pressure dead centre but it refuses to go click into place. Its not the wiring or fibre in the way, its something in the front of the glovebox slot or on the AMI itself getting in the way.

To make matters worse I cannot now remove the changer, the removal tools cannot seem to get a good hold on the metal tag on the changer. The same tools seem to get a good purchase on the AMI ones. When you push them into the changer, they appear to engage but when you pull they just come out again. My only concern is that something has caught on the back of the changer, thus causing it to sit slightly off distorting the slots slightly.

I was hoping to remove the whole kit when I sell the car, but unless I can get the changer out that is not going to happen now either.

So to summarise, the AMI will not fully locate in slot 2 for the reasons above, the CD changer is clipped into place fine but now cannot be removed.

which side you have the ami in, I found it best to have the changer on the right, ami left, I put the ami in first then tidy the cable by outting hand in empty slot then changer in last

AMI to the right hand side.

I've been doing some googling around and found this on another thread relating to a 2003 A8.
Quote:
My glove box right-hand DIN slot wasn't as deep as the left-hand slot, so neither AMI nor the CD changer would fit in it. There seems to be no reason for this as there is plenty of room behind the glove box. I took a hacksaw to the back of the right-hand DIN slot so that the AMI will fit. This takes longer than the rest of the installation and unplugging the glove box pops the airbag warning light on, which I cleared later with VCDS. The AMI will fit without doing this, but it will protrude by about 5mm and won't latch home. The glove box door will shut.
So maybe the right hand slot is not deep enough, I'll not be using a hacksaw or removing the glovebox so the AMI may well end up like it is unless some kind soul would like to take a look at some point.

However I would like to be able to remove the now stuck changer in the future, I am also concerned and want to check the fibre cables are not caught as I certainly don't want any damage on the car side of these. It could just be the crappy removal tools, I have 4 in total but none seem to work well.

Sadly not at the meet as I have other commitments that weekend. However to get this sorted I am willing to travel, every couple of weeks I travel from Dorset to Hertfordshire but can travel beyond if need be.

Just been out and had another play, changer still stuck and it does look like the right hand bay is not as deep as the left. The AMI unit is quiet a bit deeper than the tray I removed, I guess because my car pre dates the AMI no allowance was ever made for it to be fitted.

The pictures below are as far back as it will go.

Also spotted the glovebox light does not work.

Mannyo,
Mine is a 2004 D3 3.0 TDI.
When I was pondering the AMI fitting I read the post that you found about cutting the rear of the glove box and was prepared. When I actually fitted the AMI there was not a problem.
CD changer on the left and AMI on the right. I have since had the glove box completely ouit on three occasions whilst fitting a Reversing camera and did not have any probs with removing or refitting the two units.
Looking at the small amount your AMI is protruding I would think that something is fouling at the back. Pity that you will not be at the meet because I am planning on bringing my Snake Scope with me. That is a flexible stalk with a camera on the end that plugs into my laptop. We could have poked it behind the glove box to see what is happening.
Good luck with it, so frustrating to be so near but no cigar.
