My "tyre man" generally doesn't charge for disposal on the basis that enough of them are sellable by the people he passes them on to to balance the costs of disposing those that aren't.

Best quote for Super Sports 20s is down to £230 a tyre supply only - I'm working on the basis the wheels the old tyres are coming off could benefit from a refurb so the cost of fitting is covered in that - from Bracknell Tyre and Battery. Used to use them years ago but their reputation took a nose dive after Micheldever bought them. If they can supply them for £30 less than Camskill or Black Circles I'll happily buy them there to be fitted elsewhere.

My local wheel refurb place has awesome fitting kit and are extremely careful with what they do. I haven't checked them for a price on tyres yet but they're generally less competitive than Camskill as they don't do the numbers to get the discounts.

Sounds like a good price to me - the lowest I could get to was £270 (fitted), though that was about a year ago...

Chaps, a small dilemma with new tyres.

I have to replace 3 tyres, (originally 2 until i found my spare was bald!) and i'm not sure what to buy.I need 2 on the front and one on the rear drivers side. The rear passenger tyre was new last November from the last MOT and under the previous owner - a Dunlop SP Sport 3000.

Now, ideally replacing 3 tyres i would like to buy the same brand so they are the same rubber all around the car. I've looked at a few Dunlop tyres but i've also found for the same amount i could get a Pirelli P Zero tyre or alternatively for £10-£15 less per tyre i could go for a Falken or Kumho but i'm not sure if the whole thing would look quite odd with different brands mixed on the back of the car etc.

I don't do a lot of miles so the existing Dunlop is still pretty new but what do i buy for the other 3?

Cheers

It's a long thread, this one, so I won't repeat myself. Personally, on a car like this I wouldn't 'mix and match' with tyres. I'd stick the worst one in the boot and buy 4 new ones.

My other issue is the other rear tyre is a budget tyre, also like new. My plan was to put that back in the boot and leave the existing Dunlop on the car. I don't really want to scrap a nearly new tyre otherwise I would just buy 4 new.

Right so easy then, buy 1 new Dunlop to match the one on the back, put the buget in the boot and buy a pair of Pirelli's or whatever it is you were thinking about on the front. Job done

Or flog the surplus one on eBay if you want a matched set on the car

I too would probably sell the surplus tyre, after working out the best way of getting a good match all round.
One factor to also consider is whether you have (or would end up with) a mix of asymmetric and directional tyres. I try to keep all 4 the same and have each "axle" the same brand (and model of tyre if at all possible), ideally all 4 of course.
Personally I don't bother too much about the spare matching in any respect as long as it has reasonable tread; I don't expect it to be used much if at all.

But Shirley selling the spare is going to be a pain in the arse to arrange and there will be the question of how much is it worth and then is it worth doing.....

Despite not wanting Dunlops on it to get the same sort of pattern and a very similar tyre all round I can't see any other choice but get 3 of them. I could get one more for the back and then 2 of a different brand on the front but won't that look odd?
