Right boys and girls, we have a venue!

Now, there’s a bit of a story behind this, so I’ll tell that first. We decided on a location for this meet before we found a hotel, and then discovered that hotel rooms in this part of the world are pretty hard to come by. Most of the places we called were either already fully booked for the weekend of 6-8 June or asking silly money for a room.

But we did, eventually, find one with enough rooms at a sensible price. But, it had some of the worst TripAdvisor reviews that I’ve ever seen!

But we phoned anyway and discovered that it has new owners and is being renovated. So off we went today to have a look. It does, indeed, have extensive renovations going on and we’re assured they’ll be finished in time for the meet!

So, after a little negotiation, we did the deal.

And here it is: http://www.thetyndruminn.co.uk/

We’ve already reserved rooms for me, Brian and David, of course, plus Neil (3 nights), Mike (3 nights), Sergey, Jethro, Ainar and Stephen (all for 2 nights). Please phone to confirm, ‘cos they’re all my credit card for now!

Ainar, please note, that we couldn’t remember your last name, so your reservation is under ‘Ainar’.

Steamship – sorry, didn’t get your post until we got home, so please give the Tyndrum Inn a call to book a room.

For anyone else wanting to book a room, please call and say that you’re from the A8 Owners Meet for the rate of £35 per person per night, including breakfast. And note that, because of aforementioned scarcity of rooms, they won’t keep rooms for us, so book it now!

For those who prefer their accommodation a little more basic, there is a site opposite with camping, hostel, cabin and ‘hobbit house’ (yes, really!) accommodation: http://www.tyndrumbytheway.com/

And if you prefer your accommodation a bit more up market, this place is 6 miles up the road and has vacancies: http://www.bridgeoforchy.co.uk/

Another bonus; if you don’t heed our advice to book early, call the Tyndrum Inn anyway and Andy or Jennifer Riley will find you suitable accommodation nearby.

Now, a very sketchy itinerary:

Arrive Friday at the Tyndrum Inn. A bit closer to the event, we’ll try to get an idea of when folk might arrive and, if appropriate, book the restaurant as a private room. Now, if you’re planning to come up earlier and need accommodation a little further south (Dumbarton or Helensburgh) then your friendly local organising committee might be able to put you up for a night (Brian said his rates would be very reasonable!).

Saturday – have we got a great day planned for you! We’ll be departing fairly sharp (around 10am) for a drive that you’ll never forget, with a list of attractions en route that we’ve yet to whittle down to a manageable number. We’ll return to the Tyndrum Inn where we’ve booked out the entire restaurant (also being refurbished) for an evening of food, drink and entertainment.

On Sunday, we know many of you will want to make a start for home, but we’d beg your indulgence for a brief coffee stop on the way at a place you’ve never seen the likes of before! For those staying on an extra night, we’ll have a ‘suggestions pack’ if you want to be see more of this spectacular part of Scotland.

So, there we go. Did I say book it soon? If not, book it soon! And please let us know so we have a good idea of numbers for the Saturday extravaganza.

Looking forwards to seeing you all in June!

We might do the campsite seeing as there's 4 of us and the dog.

Will we be doing the Rest and Be Thankful?

Is that you definite, Richard? And I assume "the dog" is no less than Brodie the Wonder Dog?

The campsite looked pretty good and the choice of accommodation type was varied as well. Probably only 5 minutes walk up a very quiet drive from the Tyndrum Inn.

And the Rest & Be Thankful - nope!

And no more clues!

We're a definite.. Brodie The Wonder Dog is a maybe, but just in case we're booking the campsite.. Google maps reckons a 10 minute walk to the hotel (or the Green Welly stop for a fry up)

Brilliant! That's 11 cars already. If I were a native, I'd be doing a Highland Fling!

Good news! How about those who expressed interest at the start of this thread - Delboy? M-A8? Trophy885? bigchris1? Darrenjoe90?

What about it GH77? (another Scottish resident) Its just up the road from you! I remember you expressing enthusiasm for the 2014 meeting on joining the forum
And its not too far from Langbank is it Simon W?

It would be great to get to 20 cars.
