Default Genuine auto or DIY manual

Hi all
A bit of a loaded question.

If any of you were in the market for a low ish mileage S8 (89,000), which would you be more likely to entertain?

A genuine well maintained Auto with no gearbox issues at all. Or a DIY manual conversion?

I've been considering for a while about starting to collect the bits needed for a manual conversion but it goes against my natural preference which is to keep things original.

From what I can make out an automatic gearbox rebuild is about 5k and a good manual conversion is about 4k so it's not really worth doing from a financial perspective but which would you rather own?

I’d take a manual any day of the week.

My gearbox is currently dead and Ive enquired about a manual conversion but apparently no one here does them…I’ve only seen 6

The only person I think has done a manual conversation is MJ but I'm not sure she's taking on work at the moment and I'm also unsure if it was lhd or RHD. I've not done much research apart from watching a video or two but I think the RHD is a bit more problematic. Not sure why.

I can think of 5 in the UK that have been done. I thought it was 6 so I may have dreamt it!

The first one I heard of belongs to an ex Spyker race team mechanic. He did his at least 10 years ago.

The second was I guy on here with a green one. I think his name is wolfinsheepsclothes or similar. Then I remember MJ doing one for Bert. The 4th one I saw was on social media somewhere…he has a PF running an RS6 lump and a manual box. And the most recent one I’ve seen is MJ’s.

I did ask the guy who has the pre facelift one if his company could mine but he said no unfortunately
