Yeah, fair point.

I don't have it, and I'm assumning it's a reasonable investment to get some kind of home version?

It'll probably get low loaded to someone who can take a look (possibly David Lees in Alcester) if I can get some availability.

If not, sold for probable pocket change as a non-runner.

A 3-VIN version costs £225. For anyone with a VAG car that plans on keeping them, it's a worthwhile investment. You can find second-hand ones on eBay or you could even go for a cloned version, although you take a risk with the latter.

I was thinking about something along those, including the F125 switch, but in most cases problems mean the relevant relay is "dead" so you don't get cranking.
I'm another one that agrees VCDS is a must.

If it's temperature related it could be the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) playing up and giving you the wrong fuel mixture. Typically that means you can start cold but not when warm, though flooring the throttle can sometimes overcome that.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks for those further suggestions.

Will definitely consider VCDS, but still also considering if it's time to part company with it.

Will try giving it a good boot when I next try and crank it!

There's always a market for genuine VCDS (especially unlimited-VIN) so if you buy one then no longer need it, just sell it on. You won't lose much and will have made use of it.

If it's a limited-VIN one maybe sell it with the car?

Yeh that's a good point, true. I'll see if I get anywhere with my latest garage enquiries and make a decision about next steps!

I mean I would like to, it's had a few quid of maintenance over the last few years. It's in Rugby blocking my paren'ts small driveway! But it usually lives in London with me.
