All A6 models are diesel now!
Surely not?
Been looking at the current A6 range with my son, who ideally wants a S6 Avant. As far as we can tell there are NO PETROL ENGINES WHATSOEVER available for the entire A6 range. The only petrol engines are the 4-litre versions in the S6 and RS6 models. What is going on?

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions and extended leather. Ski hatch retrofit. Aftermarket reversing camera. DVB-T and XCarlink now removed as redundant. 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation".  (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Just took a look at Audi.com.au to see what's available here.
No Avant, unless you opt for the Allroad. Allroad only has one engine choice in the 3.0 diesel (nice engine though!). Switch to Sedan (Saloon?) and there's 2 petrol variants, neither of which I would option - 1.8TSFI and 2.0TSFI. Deisels are the 2.0 and 3.0. All transmissions are S-tronic.

According to Audi Germany web site there are Avant 1.8t and 2.0t variants (the latter with quattro) but I guess in the UK they consider the demand doesn't warrant importation.
The previous model definitely got the 3.0t (supercharged v6) in a de-tuned state from the S models. I'm quite surprised that they've not produced a decent petrol version, below the halo models, but I guess investment is going in to hybrid powertrains which aren't ready yet? The 2.0t is a fine engine in something light and small but in a car the size of the A6 I can't help but feel it would be a bit underwhelming due to the added weight? The 4.0t is on my shopping list for the next car - just not sure if it'll be S or RS flavour
