Chrome headlight Switch

I've made several of these up for the A3 boys and thought it was time to do one for my self.

Here it is.

A3 8P chrome switch fitted to the A8 unit.

WHAT ??????
That is fantastic, what a great little mode. The style of chroming matches the one on the seats buttons.
I'll have one to.

So all you need is to buy a A3 8P light switch, unplug mine and plug new one, job done??

Cheers Scott +++

PS. Title says Window switch not Lights switch ;)

ScottD3 20th August 2014 08:27 PM

Edited it. Not sure where that title came from lol

Not exactly.
You need to strip down both switch units and swap the knob over.
It's fiddly but easy enough.

I'm happy to do one for anyone.

Have you got spare chrome knobs???

M-A8 20th August 2014 08:39 PM

Well, never mind, went on eBay to see if there are any and there was one on auction ending in 33seconds with current bid £3.78 and £9.50 postage.
In panic I placed the 20quid bid and won the thing for £5.50 plus £9.50 postage, £15 in total for this mod is just amazing as next the cheapest one costs £40 up to £60.

Scott, great stuff once again.

Guy lives in London and ships 1st class so I will keep my fingers crossed for it to arrive before weekend, it will look great with freshly deep cleaned interior.

PS. This is it isn't it????

That's the unit buddy.

The prices very so much mainly due to it's options but as long as it's with in your budget and has the chrome knob you're laughing.

M-A8 20th August 2014 09:02 PM

So it's the correct one then, smashing.

I was prepared to pay £40 if my bid of £30 in total was too low, but I end up winning it for £15, I am laughing now.
When is fitted I will just throw a smile and get out from the car all proud

Cheers Scott +++
:pint:

Can't wait for it !!!!

Not a problem mate.

I assume you're more than capable to do it but if you get stuck or anything just let me know and I'll help you out the best I can.

Hi Scott.
I do need help. I thought I will do that in no time, but after two attempts so far no success. Both moments were not the best ones to do it, but.....
I've got both switches in pieces,I just can't get both knobs out of the body.
I've tried all the positions with both ball pins pushed in and nothing.

Please help

I'll do my best explaining this but if it don't work you're more than welcome to phone me.

Both light switches are same internally.
Remove the backing an circuit board.

You're left with the whit middle, two prongs with springs and the black guide inserts for the centre.

Remove the springs and prongs so you don't lose them.
On the old switch, prise out the two rubber/plastic guides. These don't help in releasing the plastic but gives you more room.

You can't get the switch knob out or the centre bit. They are keeping each other in.

You can't really see the 2 little clips that keeps the knob in but they are there below the two arms with the balls in the end.

You need go get a thin screwdriver under the arm. That's where the clip is. There is a slight gap between the clip and main body of the white unit.
This won't effect the switch knob if you damage or snap the arms off on the old switch but try not to snap them off on the A8 one cause the knob will fall off.

There's two you need to bend out and the knob will fall out.

Not sure that helps but that's it.
