Default Back in the game

It's been a week now since I found my new A8. Just been too busy too find a moment to say... I'm back in the game.

Delighted. She's got everything, and more, than I wanted to replace my last ride and I bought her off a fabulous family who were only selling because they bought a new D4. Great to meet them and to see that, yet again, once bitten you've driven an A8 it's hard to go to anything else.

A few cosmetics to be done over coming weeks to bring her to my taste, but overall really loving her vibe.

Thanks to the cool peeps here on the forum for their support during the dark days of no A8. ;-)

Welcome back, your new 8 looks very, very nice.

Been toying with the idea of putting my 20" FE wheels on for winter and getting the standard wheels refurbished.......you may have just convinced me it's a great idea

More photos soon please (once you've removed the S8 badges )

...but the aesthetics pale to insignificance when this happens this morning on the motorway going extremely fast.

Thank God I was in an 8.

No, Winter tyres can be run perfectly fine in summer, they just wear faster. I am I am putting winter tyres on either this or next weekend as the summer tyres does not grip well with reduced temperatures an wetness on the road in the late evenings, early mornings now.

Possibly sidewall was internally damaged by running underinflated at some point in life.

Indeed, what Ainars said. And summer tyres wear faster when it's cold.

Winter tyres are typically better from about 7C or less even in the dry and you'd be surprised how early in Autumn it regularly gets that cold before sunrise. And how far into spring before it's warmer.

With SWMBO about to retire (and no longer having to be ready to drive 100 miles to the in-laws at any time of day or night whatever the weather) I'll be doing less driving in those cold hours of darkness so the winter wheels may not go on quite so early this year. We'll also have the luxury of just sitting at home if the weather is cold and unpleasant.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
