Default Gutted

Ben,

Mate, I'm absolutely gutted for you, but I do have some faith in medical developments: the last 10 years have seen quantum leaps in medical advances. Best of luck with everything and our thoughts are with you.

Jim

Thanks again guys.

Been doing some digging and seems only possible help is stem cell based. The gene therapy seems ineffective as I belive now my condition by have been dramatically accelrated by my rediculous high blood pressure, thus allowing the blood flow over the Macular adn starting the process. I'm not 100% but it all fits together. A chap who specialises in this is calling from the RNIB today to discuss my options and possible future treatments.

They have successfully restored Mice's vision from total blindness so fingers crossed!

In the mean time my new sun glasses are he;lpin LOADS when outside, even if it's not bright. Makes driving less scary!

No use being fed up, there's people far more intelligent than me spending their lives trying to cure this issue so fingers crossed and just enjoying now.

At least modern medicine has advanced to the stage that they know what is going on in there, i cant imagine how much worse it would be if you still didnt have a clue. I do wonder how long it will take them to be able to do a full eye transplant, they seem to be able to manage everything else these days....

Yes, so put your workshop rates up, take a bit more time off, it'll all balance out quite nicely

Ian, I reckon ya right on the eye transplant thing. They can make bionic retinas now so my dream of full zoom and still capture function nwith 16gb of strage isn't as far fetched as just a few years ago! Bloody hope so though as really starting to notice a drop in vision.
I have had to move stuff round at home as can't see who's on TV anymore and HAVE to wear my bloody polarised glasses ALL time when outisde - I look a pillock this morning paying for my V-Power in the drizzle with me shades on!!

My blood pressure John is sporadic. Normally around the 130/85 mark which is fine but then spikes to around yours - usually about 220/150. Worst I had was when at RR doing my aprenticeship I passed out on top of a lathe with BP of 245/170 by the time they got me to the medical bay. Trouble is they never found a cause and so any tablets they gave me either didn't touch it or absolutley wiped me out as it's normal 60% of the time. I have learned to keep it low and to try to minimize the time it spends high. Been since I was tiny. I'm wondering now if either the two issues are linked on this gene level or if the eyes failing are a result of the high BP....... We shal (excuse the pun)...SEE!!!

Sh1t hard to find the words mate and as we have never met it seems like i'm choosing my words very carefully.

My wife is currently studying stem cell research and like you said earlier post there are some real clever b4st4rds out there developing these things all the time.
I know Mike had said you have a really good attitude towards the whole looking at life thing and I just wanted to say, I believe positive thinking is a huge key to anything like his. I have worked with people that have had cancer for years before finding out, once they found out and seamed to accept it somehow start to deteriorate very fast and others who have stayed positive and fought it out are still going strong.

You hang in there fella. I reckon it’s more like 20 than 2 for a start and by that time your have your night vision, telephoto, x-ray, 20gb, HD recording, still capture eye.

I am just wondering where I will have to be inserting the 8gb memery SD card for these new eyes....

Thanks for the kind words and I am very hopeful of stem cell research moving on. If your wife here's of anything in the field let me know! I'd happily be a guinea pig!
