Audi A8 D2 Parking Sensor woes
Hi all,
So my parking sensors started to play up, this could manifest itself by them not working at all, or a long beep being heard. Got it plugged in for diagnostics, and this identified that it was the beeper inside the car that was broken; all of the actual sensors were ok. Is this a common fault? Apparently the sensor is located behiind the instrument binnacle, is the sensor on its own, or is it part of something else - in other words, will it be expensive? Many thanks |

Do you mean a faulty control unit? The beeper can really only beep or not beep.
I've had plenty of faulty sensors over the years but never (yet) a faulty controller. The wiring and connectors behind the bumpers can get pretty cruddy and corroded too. I suppose it's possible that there's a short at one of the connectors (or at least a partial short caused by water ingress) causing a misleading diagnosis. Assuming FL (1999-2003), here's the part numbers and locations: https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/e...8q/257/919250/ Should you need one, used controllers seem to be available on Ebay for around 20-30 quid.

I’d echo Mark’s comments. I’ve had a good number of sensors fail, giving symptoms like yours. Did you get a ‘proper’ VagCom scan or use a ‘generic’ scanner? Not sure where you’re located (you can add that to your profile), but many of us are on the VagCom register on this forum and are happy to provide a scan in exchange for travel costs (and perhaps a beer!).
Replacements, as Mark said, are fairly cheap and pretty easy to replace.
