Hi,

Is there somewhere on here that quickly explains the different A/S8's and their abbreviations?

I sometimes a little lost on things like 'PF' and QS (Quattro Sport?) and FE (Final Edition?).

How can u spot a FE?
And a genuine S8 (as opposed to an A8 upgraded with S8 parts) etc?
Are all A/S8's aluminium body, double-glazed (include windscreen) and have solar sun roof?

Digressing a little here, but how much does it cost to replace a windscreen (audi/autoglass)?

I have already tried wiki

Sorry, if it seems to be a mumble-jumble of questions.

Many thks!

Not sure theres a newbie/buyers guide, but specifics are:

pf= pre-facelift
fl= facelift

Qs and fe you have correct

There's a couple of threads about spotting an fe like mine - they are basically all 2002 reg'd with S mode on the gearbox (not 4,3,2) and easy to spot in interior pics. 20" rims were standard but quite often fitted to others. If it has more than a relatively modest spec (nav, obselete phone prep, I think blinds) then its not an fe

You won't find many a8s mechanically converted to s8 spec. Engine code should give it away. The s8 has shorter gearing so pulls more revs at motorway speed, the main reason they're worse on fuel

All are aluminium irrespective of spec. Double glazing was std on s8 and some others if memory serves, but also easy to spot. Windscreen isnt double glazed on any but earlier cars seem to have more of a reflective look to the glass Solar sunroof isn't std on any model and wasn't available on fe

Auto dim interior mirror was an option, with exterior auto dip as an additional option to that! Not on the fe either....

There's others much better equipped to advise but that's a starter

I thought the FEs (like mine too!) were particular paint and upholstery combinations (I'm sure someone will be along soon with the colour combo list and dates, which I've seen before). Non-FEs also had the S mode gearbox.

Apart from badging, you can easily spot an S8 by the 'chromed' exhaust tail pipe. And a FL has flush headlight washers, fog lights in the lower grill and a chrome strip along the rear bumper, amongst other bits and pieces.

Yep, correct about non-fe from 2002 have the s mode too. Not sure about late 2001 cars?

Also correct that unless it's one of half a dozen colour/interior trim combos then it isn't an fe

I've only seen one in aqua blue and from memory the 'morning dew' leather looked 'interesting' even compared to my purple interior! Never seen an S8 in Misano Red but would imagine with silver leather it'd look quite cool like an RS4.

Black with silver grey leather is the only subtle option of the lot

For added entertainment there's no Final Edition badging on the car, or registration paperwork either!

Probably best to forget about FEs now and just look for a decent condition car with the right bits on it that you want

Adrian

For reference, twin-pane glass was standard on all V8 models, and optional on V6.

With the facelift, every panel bar the rear quarters, trunk and roof were different.

Sport mode was standard from 2001 onwards, on all models.
