Default Anyone Heard of This? 3rd-4th Change Problem

Hi, can anyone help with my gearbox issue, my car is an S8, 98 model (Pre facelift S2).

The tiptronic box is fine except for one thing, between 3rd and 4th it changes up really late - at about 2400rpm.

All the other changes are below 2000rpm (when cruising). I can override it by doing it myself but as you can imagine I don't want to have to do it all the time.

Any ideas?

Do you know if the gearbox oil has been changed at all? sounds like the early stages of the gearbox starting to go, but a flush may sort it.

Hi, the box was reconditioned in 2010. I could live with it but if there was an easy solution then I would get it sorted. I might have a look at doing an oil change.

Has it not always been like this? My S8 is very rare below 2000, even in tiptronic mode it downshifts when below 2000rpm apart form 3rd-2nd and 2nd-1st

Indeed, 2400 sounds like the minimum revs before mine changes up in any gear, and that's when I've been driving very gently for a long time.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Remember the TCU 'learns' your driving style and will decide when it will change based on your style. See the transmission sticky for a link to Paul Waterloo's site and how to reset the TCU.

Morning all. I took the battery off for an hour and it made no difference. Not too fussed about it now, getting used to it.
