going in to the energy manager in vagcom you have a drop down for the battery, select it and then you can change the type of battery and the battery serial number.
when you change the serial number the car believes you have a new battery and resets the batt meter. works as long as you dont really have a duff battery which would then trigger of the issue almost immediately

Thanks for the info, is there any advantage/disadvantage to doing this and is it necessary to do?
My car was fitted with a new battery just before I bought the car and I doubt very much if the settings were changed, I don't have any battery issues and can leave it for 4 or 5 weeks without any issues

The battery meter is disabled by default in newer versions of MMI as it basically sucked and didn't give a real view of what the battery was like anyway with some knackered batteries showing 100%.

For example when mine showed 100% on the MMI, I checked VCDS and it said Battery condition: 100% SOC (state of charge): 30% But the MMI is not Battery condition, as when the MMI showed 30%, VCDS battery condition was still 100%. |

well, 2 weeks on and the issue reoccurs - the update left the MMi feeling quicker and more responsive but obviously didnt fix the problem.
I still think battery drain is at fault, have to go back to switching mmi and phone off while i think what to do next could be back to audi again

Quick update. Dave at A8 parts had the car in again this week and tried re-running MMI update discs. Disc 2 found more stuff to do although it should have run fully the first time and once completed the blue tooth phone module is now back. We also decided to switch off the battery meter and fully charge the battery and recode it as new to the car. Upshot so far is battery has lasted overnight without dropping to level where the alarm led's stop flashing for the first time since this began and I am now able to leave it parked without removing MMI TV tuner fuse. I'm still not fully convinced we have sorted the problem of the battery drain until a few more nights have passed but its looking promising and to be fair to Audi the mmi upgrade and disabling of the battery meter is what is recommended in the TSB to sort the battery drain problem.

Further update; drain has recurred but is completely stopped if the radio tv fuse is removed so it is confined to a component in this circuit. Challenge is to find out which!

mines lookng the same
i havent tried taking the fuse out, but switching the phone off hasnt worked, and im now sure (according to audi ) the radio firmware is up to date which was the main solution in the TSB i havent reset it with vagcom this time, ive let it run so that audi can diagnose it better, when you delete the errors on vagcom the history is no longer there for them to see. Will be giving them a call this week to get it in again

resolved at last
Finally I have a resolution to this 2 year old problem
The fault is caused by the software in the Battery Manager, i have done a full write up here but in short if your software version of the Energy manager is between 0270 to 0490 a software change is required, you need to upgrade it to 0510 you can do it with a VAS505x by putting in an update CD PN 4E0 906 961 G in other words you need a dealer or specialist with the correct cd to do it you cant do it with vagcom

link is not working i also get battery manager come up ... but one thing i do know is that the battery allegedly always saves a portion of power for starting the car ... so it will shut down any luxurys ... stereo .. auto boot.. keyless entry ect ...to ensure you can always start the car and i think (dont quote me ) that the battery will be fine and its a management issue .. unless your car physically wont start or really struggles to start then the battery is fine and the managment is having an epidemic shutting things down to preserve power to start the engine when really you have plenty of power
would be interesting to see how the update is done ect if you can post another link http://www.audi-resource.com/ecu61.php Last edited by daviesbike; 24th February 2013 at 10:11 AM. |
