Default D2 A8 4,2 QS PF Battery Reversed Polarity.

I've got a friend dropping his '98 A8 4,2 QS at mine tomorrow.

The story is this:

He had a flat battery, so got a jump start off another car. Unfortunately, the positive and negative cables were reversed. The mistake was rectified, and the car started. There's a 20A fuse in the luggage compartment, which was blown. And it not keeps blowing each time it's replaced.

The battery has since been replaced with a brand new unit.

The audio unit is dead, the ASR warning is illuminated. I haven't seen the car yet, I'm just looking for any pointers. My buddy also said smoke was rising from the rear parcel shelf, around the driver's side speaker area.

Any input on this will be great.

That's unlucky. I know of somebody who tried to connect battery other way round after taking it out for charge and nothing was damaged.

Oh dear, it was connected like that for a while then was it?

There is not a lot under the parcel shelf tho, speaker and blind (if it has one)
There is an arial booster type thingy behind the rear piller on the drivers side.

Hi there. Not, it wasn't connected the wrong way for any length of time. The lead connectors sparked quite bad, then of course the error was spotted, and the lead removed.

No rear electric blind option on this car.

Well, the car is here. It runs fine, I've replaced the radio, so that now works. Unfortunately, the ABS warning is illuminated still.

VCDS won't communicate with the ABS controller either. I'm not too clued up with the PF D2, I'm not even sure where the fuse box is! There was a fuse that kept blowing in the luggage compartment, the fuse / relay holder located above the battery. It's a 20A item, I've replaced it, and tried to communicate with the ABS controller with VCDS - still no joy.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or know where the PF main fuse box is?

Thanks guys!

Main fuse box is by the drivers right ankle. Open the drivers door and look immediately in front of it just above floor level to see a small wheel that turns to release the cover panel.
Lots of other stuff elsewhere of course, especially the huge electronics array under the front passengers feet behind the infamous wooden board.

Combined with the hydraulic modulator, in the engine bay. It's pretty low down on the passenger's side, by the frame rail.

Not quite tat simple, it could be combined with hydraulic unit ( Bosch 5.3)or a separate control (Bosch 5.0) unit either in ECU box under TCU(RHD) or in the dash(LHD).

Bosch 5.0 is used in most 8's up to 1997 and Bosch 5.3 from 1998. For 97-98 cars if you have ESP then it's 5.3 if not then 5.0
