That is the penultimate-ever genuine new coolant tank. Its impossible to clean them tbh, and I would replace them as a matter of course when doing these jobs, but alas I appear to have used them all The very-last-ever one is of course sitting on my shelf, and bizarrely Tradition don't appear interested in making new ones.

The coolant should be changed every 3-5 years depending on usage. In the V8 it tends to stay clear for a long time as there are very few steel parts in the engine, but in the V6 once the rust inhibitors wear out the coolant will become contaminated with rust and start going brown. It sounds like yours could so with a flush and coolant change.

A vexing and unproductive day today. I started putting the suspension back on, and then discovered that the springs I was going to use are not in as good condition as my ailing memory thought they were, so they will need to go for powdercoating next week. I need to move the car off the lift next week though so its sitting on a spare set of struts for now and I'll swap them later.

I had the upright mounted on this side right up until I tried to fit the tie rod bolt, whereupon I discovered the edge which holds the bolt head has been smushed in the past and no matter what I tried I couldn't get any torque on the nut This will be going to my local tig welding specialist tomorrow to get the edge built up again.

It took a little while to get the pinch bolt out of the other side and then I was at least able to assemble that

This is how the B5 arb link sits with the suspension on full droop, so its easy to see why the D2 links look ok when fitted.

I don't think its catastrophic if you have the D2 links fitted. I have them on Big Red and they are working fine 5 years later. I suspect if you do a lot of miles they will just wear out sooner because of the extra angle. Tbh none of them last very long round here because of the awful roads so I use Lemforders on my daily drivers as they last a couple of years whereas the Meyles are done in half that. My D2s do mostly motorways and long journeys though so don't get the pounding of a daily.

No you didn't. You went by the list that I sent you which at the time was correct as I had gleaned this info from the site (it may have been an earlier posting by MJ in another thread - sorry MJ)

Mine is currently looking like this

I actually put lemforders on mine and the pic shows them how they sit. I have ordered replacement Meyle and will be swapping this weekend

No, general consensus was that they were the right ones and have been the part of use for suspension refresh. It is only MJ noting the offset in this thread that has challenged that.

The part numbers I gleaned were from this post (so apologies to MJ)

Yes, they were correct based on what we knew at the time. I've only discovered the offset on this car, and that was only because I assembled it all on the floor so had clear visibility of it and was able to get a direct comparison of the various bits.

We're probably going to find more like this as we need to find alternative sources for things. At least they aren't expensive

I got the strut back this afternoon with a tiny bead of weld on the formerly-smushed edge

A quick dress with the grinder and the bolt fits perfectly again

Mounted on the car again

I put a bunch more stuff back in but forgot to take any pictures. Hopefully brakes and front panel back on tomorrow and then I can fire it up

Pretty caliper

New splash plates and bolts. The D2 bolts are NLA, but later models use an identical bolt with a slightly different number, because of course they do N90598804 for future reference.

Febi brake disk and hose, TRW pads, Apec fitting kit

New hose and clips obviously

This would have gone a lot better if I remembered to bring the other caliper from home Never mind - that can go on tomorrow.
