That seems surprising as there must be thousands of raffles around the country that don't have a gambling licence (and we got away with it at the annual meet!).

I wonder if it's different for charities?

Had a quick look on line:

Raffle's are considered to be a 'small lottery' in the eyes of the law.

BUT, one of the three categories of exempt lottery which do not require any kind of authorisation by a local authority is:

Customer lotteries – business owners run these and only sell tickets to customers.

So, my conclusion is that if you only sold tickets to your customers (us!), you'd be OK.

Had a lot of experience of this about 10 years ago, assuming it hasn't changed, you have to introduce an element of skill, for example:

Which model of Audi featured in the following films? Transporter 2, Ronin, Taken?

a) A8
b) A1
c) R8
d) R10

If there is more than one correct entry, one is drawn at random by a third party who has not entered the competition and is not related to/working for them in anyway.

I'd consider buying it if it were being sold for reasonable money. What’s an old D2 S8 worth these days realistically 2 - 2.5k?

Depends on the D2 in question - I paid a lot more than that earlier in the year, but it was/is a very fine example (although I say so myself).

Depends very much on how it's been looked after.
I paid just over £3K for mine then as much again (as expected) getting it "fettled". No complaints.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Must have been the only other one, but its not the same car as the parts on ebay have clear side repeaters and the one mentioned here has orange.

If its down to the worst option, and if there is enough space why not save the rare chassis, and sell the engine/transmission to remove maintenance costs?
Then at a later date if someone wants to run it, an engine and transmission can be put back in.
