Default Show me your stereo

I've come to conclusion that I won't get the audio system I want while keeping original stereo I want to replace it with something that "fits in" if it makes sense, so let me see what you guys have in your D2s

I can recommend installing RNS-E 2010+
With this system you can also have Audi AMI, Audi digital TV tuner, Audi Bluetooth, AUX input, reversing camera
Buttons on your steering wheel with work with it. Voice control will work, activated via Push To Talk button on steering wheel
Installing anything non-genuine will devalue these cars IMHO

Well then. I didn't know you had the mk2 installed! How did you get that working in the D2? I thought there were issues with the firmware / canbus in that version? Presume that's a mk1 A6 surround cut down to suit the D2 dash and fitted on to the mk2 buttons? Odd place to put the aux in though Would't it be easier to put that in the centre console?

While the RNS-e is a nice option to have, I can't see how many people could justify spending four figures on a head unit when better aftermarket units are available for £300. I don't see it devaluing the car to the average punter either since most aftermarket units come with Bluetooth and USB now too, making them actually useful compared to the RNS-d. If the car is sold to an enthusiast who actually wants a useless 20 year old brick in the dash then I have a stack of RNS-ds which I use as bookends Its simple enough to re-fit the original if its important.

Need to purchase early version high definition RNS-E 2010+, where Audi haven't got rid of some wires yet by packing those signals to canbus.
Some wisdom how to install RNS-E 2010+ in FL D2 is documented at the bottom of this thread:

Start reading from page 5...
I can help you MJ if you decide to do it

>> Presume that's a mk1 A6 surround cut down to suit the D2 dash and fitted on to the mk2 buttons?
Correct. Surround from mk1 A6 cut down and transplanted to A3 unit, which should have hardware version 04 or lower
Another trick is code the unit with A6 coding
Latest software version 220 will work fine with A6 coding, though it will not allow to code itself for A6 initially.
Workaround: Downgrade software to version 150, which will still accept A6 coding and then upgrade software again to 220

Additional useful stuff:

RNS-E 2010+ maximum road speed display feature

AMI installation on D2 (only works with RNS-E 2010+)

Adding auxiliary input and USB charging socket

That looks ace. Sadly I can't justify the cost involved to fit one, and I don't have the knowledge required to fit one either.

Looking for something decent that's pretty much plug&play, so I can get amplifier fitted along with a nice subwoofer and speakers.

As for car value, my D2 is a FWD 2.8 that I paid £875 for, so devaluation isn't an issue

Well, labour is free if you know what you do
and you can buy parts from cars of that era for very cheap now on eBay
from people who break cars

Haven't seen anything aftermarket for D2 that will be plug and play and will look decent

Nice Job!

I prefer the OEM look too personally and that RNS-E looks completely original sat in the D2 dash.

Presumably you still lose the DIS connectivity though?

That’s right. No DIS connectivity.

What do you actually have at present? e.g. Symphony or RNS-D?

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!
