they are having a lot of issues with Adblu my mate has just got a new A6 and he has been back in about 6 times with it, if the car decides theres not enough it just wont start. and you have to top it up every 3 or 6 thousand miles or it wont start

but it seems to be the way they are all going

You could always try petrol engines!

SCR systems are required to meet Euro 6 emissions limits for NOx. They all use AdBlue which is injected into the SCR cat, which is downstream of the DPF.

Unless you do big mileages there is no good argument for a modern diesel, as the added complexity and usage requirements mean they actually have a shorter service life than a petrol vehicle now.

Don't be tempted to remove/fiddle with the exhaust aftertreatment systems - there are changes bound to come on the MOT which will make it much easier to detect removal.

what you may not be aware of is that this is the cause of the VAG diesel engine scandal
because of the sheer cost of the Adblu installation and it's running cost VW realised that it would price the diesels they wanted to sell in the usa out of the market ; if you are going for an upmarket car it is not so significant

so VW decided they would get their diesels to meet the emissions limits without Adblu ...and we all know where that has got them !

True, but there's forced induction petrol engines that get close

Certainly the case for some older USA market models, but the newer ones did have SCR. The USA emissions limits deliberately don't differentiate between tailpipe pollutant emissions by fuel type - in Europe you are allowed a higher level of certain emissions from a diesel, compared to petrol - this is due to the USA disliking diesel fuel so they saw no benefit in allowing more pollutants. Now CO2 on the other hand.......

My X5 needs AdBlue.

It takes 5-10 minutes to top up and the stuff is easily obtainable from your usual motor factors.

Mine needs a top up around every 7-8000 miles, it's no worse than having to top up oil or coolant or windscreen washer fluid or air in the tyres.

Big fuss about nothing in my opinion

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/982aa4200

If I recall correctly, my last refill took about 5 litres, so £20 is enough for about 15,000 miles' worth.

I'd be more worried about an extra 1p on the price of fuel if I were you!!!
