Default Simple LED mods

Does anybody know the size of the festoon bulbs in the rear number plate lights? Can't remember if they are 36mm or 41mm. Been meaning to switch mine to LED for a while now as it's one of the simplest mods you can do. Just like the vanity lights in the sun visors as per this thread:

Also does anybody know the size of the bulbs which illuminate the ground under the door when you open it, like this:

The ones in the door are W5W, sometimes called T10.
These are great in the interior mirror as reading lights

This shape are for doors and boot..

The number plate are festoon ~36mm with resistors or the bulb-check turns them off. The ones with a single row of LEDs and a heatsink work and fit. Sausage shape not rectangular. Many for sale are too wide and don't fit in the space. Some are also too bright for my liking, you only need to pass MOT, not light the whole thing up like a fast food sign.

Thanks.

So something like this would do the trick?

They don't have the resistors, and so may give an error and turn off.
This type are good and only just fit mine, mine are the 2 screw-hole type of lamp, some have A8 1 screw and a clip, not sure about those....
I went for warm white, most people get cool white (blueish)

This type don't fit..

Convenient timing as one of my number plate lights has gone, and fancied popping in some LEDs..

Every time I look at LED rear number plate lights they never seem to light the rear plate properly, all you see is a pair of little reflections either side and on the bumper, it always seems to me that traditional non LED lighting seems to light the yellow number plate up in a more even way. . .

I think it depends on the type of LED, some of the older ones were fairly directional and also a small source; diffuse seems to be better.
I use the SMD 5050 type in both my cars and am very happy with the result.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Thanks. They arrived today so I'll fit them at some point. I assume the plastic lens just pops off with using a flathead screwdriver? Or does the whole fitting drop down so you can access it easily?

IIRC, they pry out at the end with a slot/clip, the other end is hooked in.
