over all it was £1300 some where around that mark with the twin exit being 400 cheaper
i opted for the quad set up as it just finished off the look to the car that i was going for

you can get the same sound with out having the extra expense of the quad exits, all depends what you are after

this is what the quads look like on mine
thay are good guys at top gear and they do listen to your needs rather than just doing there own thing to make life easy for themselves
I quite like the look of your rear end, that's the sort of look I'm after.

Loads of threads on here about this one...

The S8 exhaust is stainless anyway, but quiet as many have commented on. I guess the reason behind this is that Audi deemed their flagship car had to have some restraint in the noise department.

I went with a Milltek, and although a single exit, a pretty nice system. Not the best in terms of alignment though (they poke out far too far from the rear bumper on nearly all the D2s I have seen this system fitted to).

I had QST chop a bit off mine since my photos I put up on here and it sits better; although still not 100% central, but doesn't poke out as much. What makes it worse is that when hot, it expands by nearly an inch in length! You could trip over the bloody thing!!

Milltek are ar-seholes (see what I did there to get around the swear filter? ) as far as customer service is concerned, and I do feel for their poor suppliers that have to modify their products to fit. QST were stuck in the middle of me the customer, and Milltek the manufaturer. QST were brilliant about it to their credit.

Given the choice again, I wouldn't buy another product from Milltek. Over a year on, and the novelty has worn off slightly - so I'm not so pro-Milltek as I was at the beginning, despite only putting 3k miles on the car with this exhaust.

Check the following threads and click on some of the links on them to give you an idea of the different noises each system makes :

Video clips...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4o9Shtnl3c Supersprint single (quite loud IMO)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwrBJSUYb1c Milltek single (supposedly the quietest option)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUey4GAh9Ng Fox dual (gorgeous)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZj9aONBoNk Fox single (sounds like Milltek)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbq5LG4iqqE MIJ dual (can have them made as quiet or noisy as you like)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB-QJ6OvUxc Hayward and Scott custom one-off dual with RS6 resonators (pure audi RS V8 with this one )

Also, don't forget that there is a stupid plastic spare wheel well and just a layer of thin carpet in the boot, so hardly any soundproofing in the boot area. Drone may be a problem with these cars as a result - even with a Milltek at certain RPM

With hindsight, I would probably have kept the exhaust as standard and just simply drilled the airbox for some extra V8 intake... No drone whatsoever

HTH

p.s. I think Jaguar have a fantastic sound on the XFR/XKR as standard. Not at all intrusive from inside, but sound bloody perfect from outside. Would be interesting to make a one-off system for the D2 with Jaguar resonators.

^^^ Jay, awesome write-up here. Lots to think about now, I'm gonna spend time tomorrow listening to as many video clips as possible.

Just one big issue here - I'm spoilt for choice.

You could just remove the rear silencer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqBbItD632Y

Sounds much nicer than any aftermarket offering IMO, and easier on the wallet

I've seen a couple with the rear muffler deleted, but they tend to sound tinny, no deep V8 rumble. I think it also ruins the look, when the tailpipes just appear with no muffler visible.

A buddy of mine has a post-facelift ('02) 4,. He might end up having mine 2 QS with the rear muffler deleted, and he's not pleased. He might end up having my stock system, as not only was his OEM muffler chopped, he binned it, so can't weld it back on, lolz.

Default Pipecraft!!

I just remembered today, Pipecraft in Basildon! I'd forgotten all about them. They've built me quite a few systems on my old cars in the past:

'89 BMW E30 325i M-Tech Sport - full stainless, twin muffler, twin slash-cut tips.

'90 BMW E30 M3 Cabrio - full stainless system, twin muffler, twin DTM tips.

'87 Audi Coupe GT - full stainless with single muffler, twin non-resonated tips.

'90 VW Golf II GTI with home-brewed 16V turbo conversion. Custom system from turbo, single muffler and large oval resonated tip.

'93 Audi Coupe quattro 2,8 - full stainless system, single muffler, twin non-resonated tips.

I haven't been to Pipecraft for years, I thought they'd gone bust and expected to get a dead phone when I called, but was pleasantly surprised to get an answer, better still Dean (that's the owner) remembered me. After describing what I wanted, he's asked me to bring my car over at some point, see what they can do, working within the confines of my requirements.

He's been really good in the past - on my M3, he did made me three different systems, till I was satisfied with the sound, and only charged me for the one.

Will update you guys when I make time to go see him.
