OK

I'm running a standard rear set up at the moment BUT things are moving forward.
My spare rear hubs are in to be drilled and powder coated (in a nice satin black ) and will be fitted in the next few weeks with new bearings and bushes. It may not be in time for Audis in the Park but not long after (I've got to get that output flange gearbox seal sorted first).

So, I'll vote B7 RS4 rear setup as it will be brill!

So, when talking RS4/RS6 here, I assume it means B7 RS4 and C5 RS6?

I'd say yes but would stand corrected if anyone has an opinion on the other models

Not for the rears.

The B7 RS4 conversion needs the hubs to be drilled out from 8mm to 10mm and new back plates/splash guards to accommodate the new disc size.

Also the handbrake cables need to be replaced for A8L versions.

I'm not sure about the brake lines yet.

This is what I have learned from the first upgrade attempt.

There will be a full how to when they've been fitted.

I'm sure Mike will post his issues with the '6' rear upgrade he had planned.

For the S8 the carrier are 10mm bolts but will not bolt straight on as they are 3mm thicker than the standard carriers. This forces the disk out 3mm. The answer is either a 3mm spacer behind the disk or machine the carriers 3mm thinner.

Brake hoses are different and the same issue with the hand brake cables. On the RS6 the pull is along the line of the car not across the rear axel as per the 8. Nothing insurmountable. Just a bugger when it's your daily driver.

More to follow.

Default Rs6 brakes on S8 1997

Hi

I have bought RS6 2003 brakes but what do i need to fit the rear brakes?
Will the RS6 brake hose and handbrake cable fit to my D2 ?

And how do i do to mount the rear brake calipers?

I have to get the brake disc about 8mm further into the hub.
But also I have to get the caliper about 3mm out to the side because the disc will not get centered if i only get the caliper further into.
Se my picture.

Should I cut the brake carrier and weld a flat iron that I drill and thread two new hole?

Or are there discs that fit directly on my car with Rs6 brake calipers without having to modify anything?

Or will the rear Rs6 brakes fit direct on D3 rear hub? and I can mount D3 rear hub on my D2?

Right,

As you've already found out the offsets for the RS/S6 setup are a bit out. Mike (Conan) tried to fit S6 rears to his and gave up. I think the front offset for RS6 discs are out as well. You may need RS/S 4 fronts.

The easiest rear brake upgrade is the B7 (I think) RS4 discs and calipers. It's fairly straight forward as you only need to drill out the hubs an extra 2mm to mount the calipers and fit the handbrake cables from an A8L.

Your car is a '97 so you have the steel hubs. I have a set of steel hubs pre drilled ready for the RS4 calipers. They're a bit tatty now but perfectly useable if you're interested.

The other options I can't help you with but I can't see a D3 hub fitting a PF D2. Could be wrong though.

Good luck with it

PF is a no... not without swapping them for a FL, and not an early FL either as they had the same hubs...
