Default Rear blind not working on s8

Has anybody any words of wisdom or experience on tracking the issue here please?

If I operate the switch, should I hear a motor whir in the rear shelf?

Is there a fuse to check?

Is there access to the motor / mechanism through the boot or is it a more in depth strip down job??

Thanks folks

I have retrofitted a rear electric blind, then taken it out to put another alcantara parcel shelf with a blind there instead. I had a similar issue on putting in the second blind. Try getting someone to assist the start of the blind opening manually when you first press the switch as some get a bit sticky. If this works then check under the shelf for any parts of the shelf which are not sitting right or broken off and try to repair as it seems to be essential that the blind is sitting exactly in alignment and with no broken tabs on the supports underneath for it to properly open.

Exactly as Neil says above, get someone to press the button while you listen and manipulate the blind at the same time. My D3 blind sometimes won't raise on it's own and needs the slightest nudge till it's sitting square then rises into position just fine.

I leave it in the raised position all the time anyway but can understand the annoyance if it's acting up, or not working at all. The rear shelf will need to come out anyway to clean the rear window to your standards so fix it properly then

Don't laugh...

Being a Billy, I climbed into the back seat with a brush handle that had a bespoke stopper / cushion fashioned on the end so as to not the mark the blind switch

I can hear what sounds like a switch / relay being activated but no sign of movement.

Am I correct believing that the blind raises almost on a scissor mechanism? Im just trying to fathom which part to offer a little sweet encouragement to

And yes Ronnie, once your eye is in then "tidy" becomes totally unacceptable!

Of course I laughed, I can picture you doing it........always thought you were a bit eccentric Paul

Yes, there is a scissor movement, certainly on the PF so I imagine the FL is no different as the design is good. Two equal arms raise from each end (so meet at the middle when the blind is lowered) and reach vertical when the blind is raised. A bit of encouragement at various points along the upper edge when activating the switch should reveal where the tight spot is, if the motor is functioning that is. Do yourself a favour and ask someone to press the switch which will leave both of your hands free to coax and cajole. I have visions of you smashing your RNSE screen or similar, and we don't want that mate

It operates like this:
http://tinypic.com/r/28lbfpu/9

When I first got the car, one of the wider ends of the blind (picture below) was caught slightly on the large piece of parcel shelf trim and was freed just by lifting it up and wiggling around really. You can hear the click of the blind trying to come up, so there is still power.
