Default expansion chamber

anyone know how much a new one is......

or would it be easier to get something manufactured that won't fall apart!. I must say this is teh first time EVER I've owned a car with so many faults that are 'known issues'. TBH with all these minors I'm surprised Audi get away with it

2003 2.8 A8SQ - powder blueish. Fill in for a while. Sold on.
1998 1.8T A4 Avant FWD. Ming Blue (there's a theme here), PEX for the 97 S8.
And a list of non VAG going back 40 years before I saw the light.

yes, the coolant 'return' expansion chamber. It appears mine has the known 'cracks' in the return vessel inlet.

Grrr, it wasn't doing it when i bought it but has started now..........

aye but if they are so prone to going is it not a better deal to buy new and have some expectation of it lasting the 3-4 years i expect to keep the car.

for info a new one costs £25.79........... so not bad to be honest. cap is extra though.

Well, swapped it out last night.

I'd looked at the audi pages replacement guide but ended up a slight adjustment and tweak. took less than 10 mins all in.

Basic procedure was

Leave cap on.
remove the cover that the return pipe goes through
undo the return pipe and tuck out the way.
unscrew the 3 screws holding the chamber in place
lifting the chamber ( still full BTW!) as high as I could I undid the jubilee clip so it was loose.
making sure I had the new one to hand
I pulled the electrical connector off and tucked it away.

then it was pull off the bottom hose and quickly tipped it upside down whilst squeezing the pipe together with left hand.

get new one in hand and quickly shove onto the hose.
re-connect the electrical side
position back in place and tighten teh bottom clip

then get the old one and turn it right side up to fill up teh new chamber( teh fluid was in good condition)

I repositioned the return pipe but not quite as per audi pages.

I found that just as it comes out the back of the engine cover it can easily pull round and then taking it directly across to the chamber makes it a shorter journey and a 'smoother' journey. Its suitably secured of course.

topped up( i did spill a small amount!), take for a run, check levels

Job done!



Nothing major but another of the jobs 'ticked off'
