Default ODB Solar Charger

Looking at something completely different on ELSA I came across the ODB Solar charge from Audi.

Anyone seen it before?

Thought I'd share it.

Thought the JPG would be easier than a XPS.

Detail here:

The same device from original manufacturer -- Sickert & Hafner:

This is why I want to install switch for my solar sunroof (33.6W) to toggle between blower mode and trickle charger mode.

Would be good to know how much.. If not too much, then worth it for the couple of weeks of holiday without the car being driven, just to be on the safe side.

Excellent device! thanks for posting.
Definitely extremely useful, especially because lead-acid batteries dont like being discharged below 50%, they start to sulphate.
My battery has spent a lot of time below 50% charge, below 12.5V, and it has sulphated badly. I estimate I have around 30% capacity left, and fully charged voltage of 12.4~12.3V

Goran - Ive just bought one of these chargers from CTEK (I think Sergey bought one previously too) - more information at http://www.ctek.com/int/en/chargers/MXS%205.0

Bought it as a maintenance charger - the MXS 5.0 include diagnosis of battery condition to establish if it can receive and retain charge, patented automatic desulphation step and a special reconditioning step that will revive and restore deeply discharged and stratified batteries. AGM option is perfect for maximising performance and life of most Stop - Start batteries. The built in temperature compensation ensures ideal charging performance even in the most extreme conditions. Patented Float/Pulse maintenance makes the MXS 5.0 ideal for long - term maintenance.

I've mounted it on a wall in the workshop and purchased the additional extension lead and will be mounting a comfort indicator panel on the inside boot trim somewhere near to the battery compartment opening so that a permanent connection can be run to the battery. this will then give a traffic light indication of charge state and allow the lead from the charger to plug straight in easily.

Goran, just in case you don't have a garage nearby:

Buy OEM Solar Sunroof and instead of connecting it to the blower motor just connect it to this CTEK device and you will have nice 33.6W charger that will trickle charge your battery free of charge. (that's 2.2A on sunny day). This is what I'm going to do soon myself.

The CTEK device you'll need:
