Default D3 Chrome Window Trim - Cloudy White Marks

Hi,

I've recently purchased a 2007 Audi A8 3.0TDI Quattro and I've noticed the chrome trim around the windows, particularly around the rear quarter glass, has cloudy white marks on it... some form of corrosion I'm guessing.

I'm just wondering if anybody knows how to get rid of it... any ideas?

Regards,

Daniel

That's a shame... I suppose I will have to live with it!

Thanks for the information though.

Daniel

You could get it wrapped in satin chrome finish

I keep thinking some sort of heat gun might work, but would want to try on a test piece off the car first.

Afraid this problem is not new and afflicted D2s (search "milky trim" and you will see along history) of which this thread is one:

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...ght=milky+trim

I have tried the wet and dry and re-laquer approach. It is 1). hard work and 2). not long lasting.

I tried finding out about re-anodising (which can of course be done in a range of colours if you wish) but it wasnt something i followed up.

I tried the WD40 method (seen online in various forums and I used GT85 not WD40) and that made some of it noticeably less obvious, presumably the surface-only damage.

On the other hand it just highlighted the bits that had deeper damage.

Thanks for the responses.

It's not that bad. I will just live with it, I don't want to try something and risk making it worse.

Regards,

Daniel

I took a dremel type rotary to mine with a polishing head and Megs metal polish.
Finished it off with a FEW coats of Chemical Guys Jet Seal to protect.
Its been a few months now and it seems to be holding up ok - its a lot better than It was before, although not flawless.
