Guys,I've noticed just today that the worn out part of the tyre is showing up carcass, am I right? See attached
If so that's not only illegal but dangerous as well, correct? |
Yup... Any carcass showing is 3 points and £1000 and won't take too much before it'll potentially fail.

From the alignment printout you can see that you had to little TOE-in, that would definitively result in inner edge wear but I would not expect quite that much. Now that t it has been adjusted tyre wear on inside edge should improve but I am not sure that it will disappear all together. If there was tyre width issue it would affect both sides of tyre not just inside and not to the level you have.
Did you ask for TOE constant S to be checked and adjusted when doing wheel alignment? The printout looks like it is from Hunter machine and as far as I know it does not ask to check TOE constant S as part of alignment procedure so this is something that operator should know and check. Most of the garages I have asked about it just look at me with wide open eyes and does not know what I am talking about. Your best bet is to have it dobne at VAG specialist with proper VAG alignment machine. |
Hi Ainar
That exactly what have happened, even if they were well experienced in my opinion, no one in there had a clue what I was talking about when talking about constant S. Looks like I will have to go to my VAG guys which are 2 hours drive across London, but I don't mind it if driving 8 there, but I do mind traffic jams. I know what you are saying about toe wearing both sides, but don't forget that in Dynamic car is 35mm lower than stock setting in Comfort, so with my approx measurements that is about 5mm camber change ''in'' at the top of the tyre. If you look at the picture once again, you will notice that 80% of tyre is almost brand new as I've done only 2,3-3k miles on them so far, where the inner bit shows carcass already !!!!! How effective on inner tyre wear can be constant S?? http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...6&d=1407837071 |
