Phoned Audi and currently waiting for them to phone back with a quote and hopefully they will have some understanding of what I was talking about.

I also plugged VCDs in to check my software number.

I'm not sure which number is the software version.

Had the battery tested by the company across the road from work and it tested ok.

Still waiting on Audi.

0550 is the SW (same as mine) - according to the link above post by Architex, 0590 is the later version.

Only the dealers can update it with their VAS system, you can't update anything with VCDS or CDs in the MMI.
Dealers seem to hate it when customers go in asking for this kind of thing and either quote a rediculous price or make out they have never heard of such a thing.

Is it wort doing?? My Audi guys use VAS and VCDS so I may do it when I go to see them as they are not money mad at all. They usually do updates like that free of charge for ''special customers'' (an@l) if they are doing any work on the car or if they have a spare minute.

according to elsawin the cost for this job is 20 units

where 100 units = 1 hour

so in theory should be pretty cheap

probably not worth doing if you dont have any issues,

I hate my local Audi dealers.
Always had issues. I much prefer using the VW dealers but since I have an Audi I need to speak to them I do.
And that is what I did today.
They had no idea really what I was talking about, kept repeating "No outstanding recalls".
When they had a slight understanding they said it will have to be booked in for a diag before any work is carried out. That's £60 for 30minutes work.
After that, if it is deemed that a update is required they will charge me accordingly for time taken in doing the update.

I told them to shove it in a very polite way.

I then phoned Audi UK and asked them about the update.
They recognise that there was a update CD for the management component but the part number I gave was superseded and they can't confirm what the new one is or what car but they will find out tomorrow and phone me back.
He did say it's on a CD and sounded really helpful and semi agree go send me the CD to do it my self if it's doable like that. Then he recommended getting the dealer to do it in case anything goes wrong.

I did question about being charged for a software update but he said the update is free, you're paying for the time of the person doing it. Which seems fair but also a little bit wrong I think.

See what he comes back wish tomorrow.
I also asked if there is any goodther software updates for the car.

When I got my 8 I went through a lot of battery headAche, the battery meter never went over 10%. A local test showed a good battery, but it never worked right. Went elsewhere and they had a comprehensive tester that put the battery through a number of tests, it passed all but one. New battery fitted in December 13, varta blue top and it's been fine ever since. Can leave the car for a week and it's down to 40%, a short drive brings it back up again. I do have a battery drain issue caused by the door handles not going to sleep because of a faulty touch sensor.
