Stereo upgrade options
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys ,
I have this stereo system in my S8 , no idea which one it is , Can anyone advise on what options I have to upgrade to a more modern system and / or is it possible to install some kind of Bluetooth system to accommodate my iPhone , Cheers Dave |
No straight answer.
Pre facelifts are difficult to retrofit with Audi genuine 'double DIN' units like RND-D or RNS-E. If you're on bugget I would look at aftermarket options, but it's uneasy to find the matching style. http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=1750932 Look at Blaupunkt line... |
So it's not as simple as just buying the wooden double din surround and switches and swapping the connections over then
|
I'm looking at 'just' word. Double dins were very rare on pre facelifts. Buying from Audi will be prohibitively expensive if they are still available. Plus we'll need to change the structural frame behind the fascia.

Ok , so it stays as it is , are there any compatible Bluetooth options or should I just go ahead and buy a nokia phone for the cradle and save myself a load of hassle :D
|
I'm not saying it is impossible. Simply be prepared for serious project :)
Genuine Audi bluetooths only availble with RNS-E. Aftermarket bluetooth: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5956 |

Ok , thanks for that , so the parrot device is a serious contender to give me what I need , my guess it won't be just plug and play though ??
|
I think there is nothing plug and play to be honest...
Aftermarket headunits will have bluetooth, so if you'll decide to change headunit then separate bluetooth may not be needed. I'd suggest to drive the car for a while and test how much you love it :) Then you will decide how far you can go with upgrades... |
Is this what I need ?

You're asking if 'Audi lead' will work?
I don't remember if pre facelift cars have ISO connector at the back. If yes, it should work. |
Have a look at Xcarlink too, not sure if it works with that radio but they are good at answering questions.
I've got their "everything" kit connected to my RNS-D and it works as advertised. +++ |
You shouldn't need a SOT kit unless you have Bose.
The MKi9200 is a great bit of kit (got one in the wife's Volvo). Definitely recommended. |
I think i might have bose as the 2 rear parcel shelf speakers have bose written on the casings
