Where is my diagnostic port?
Can someone confirm where my OBD2/diagnostic port is?
Is it behind the ashtray in the front or under the steering wheel? |
Should be under the steering wheel.
|
Under steering wheel.
It clips to the steering wheel's bottom trim, so if there is nothing you will have to undo two screws behind the Alu trim, one on each side of the wheel Trim, just pull it, difficult to break it really. Last two screws for this job on side behind the fuse box trim There is more screws but don't needed for clipping obd port back in |
its right down by your feet, if you feel around the lower dash trim you should find it.

just on the edge where the trim under steering wheel is. >>> Recently I was thinking about moving it somewhere less annoying as its only a harness clipped to the trim. It can be so awkward when you have to plug the cable in from outside with closed door and window down (often during calibration or lowering suspension) There is a little compartment on the bottom right from the steering wheel which you can open and close. I was thinking to fit it in there. It can be so annoying when you have to plug in and out many times. |

Del, you know what, I like the way you thinking. Mimicsx2+android phone+Hex-Net= ultimate in car diagnostics. No need to carry a laptop in the boot everywhere you go. Something to think about. From my understanding it is possible, isn't it??? Let say you move the port to that compartment which I think is ideal location, then plug and keep there Hex-Net and Mimicsx2 will display VCDS Mobile running on your phone on the actual MMI screen ??? |
The new RossTech product is not going to be cheap, there are two versions. One is limited to being used with just 10 VIN codes, so enough for a home user to last a good few years and a pro unlimited version. The 10 VIN version is going to be USD399 and the pro version USD499.
On the other forum I moderate, Rosstech have been participating in a product discussion. |

Well its an open discussion, which members have mostly been critical on price, so I'll post a link to the thread.

Interestingly I contacted Bruce at Rosstech about becoming a retailer and I was turned down as they are not looking to expand the retail network in UK at present. Needless to say I was rather disappointed. Didn't think there was that many sellers of their products. |

I like the idea, as I have an old laptop pretty much only used for car diagnostics and it won't last forever.
As someone who bought VAG-COM and upgraded it to VCDS-Lite (paid, registered) I'm obviously looking for at least some sort of trade-in offer, probably on the 10-VIN version. $100 off would probably be enough, $50 a bit miserly.... ;) |
Trade-in offer would be amazing, but honestly, it wont happen.
I was watching genuine cables on ebay for the past year or so and they all always sell within like 10quid off the brand new price from place like Gendam. Good news for sellers, as plenty of idiots out there buying second hand cables for almost new prices, the only downside are the final eBay fees which are ridiculous. Good news, standard cables won't lose much or any value in my opinion. |

Cables/dongles last a very long time, this won't. ;) |
