Hidden Menu

I was sat in the car bored and I thought I would start having a look about the hidden menu in the MMI.
With most of it being in german and not understanding it, I never changed anything but noticed that loads of options was tickets.

Going by this menu, I should have DAB radio, ACC, tyre pressure monitoring, reversing camera, lane option or something to do with lanes and some other options.

Everything I know I got works, the system is a bit slow at times but it work.

Has anyone else has had a look at the hidden menu and see what they got ticked?

I had to enable the hidden menu, so I don't think anyone has gone in had a play but I do wonder why the bits are ticked?

Quite possible your can gateway has been replaced, or someone before you has been messing with vcds.

But on my car i get an error if the can gateway is incorrectly coded.

PsYcHe 11th August 2014 11:41 AM

Be careful what you tick (or untick) :) Some of that stucc can be done with the long coding in VCDS, but because the system can run on multiple cars, you can turn on daft things with headlights, oil sensors, etc. that don't exist on the A8, but can cause strange happenings.

ScottD3 11th August 2014 12:02 PM

I wont randomly be turning things off.
Knowing my luck I'd brick the unit.

I always thought the unit would error as well.
I've also noticed while looking at the coding in VCDS that some options I have got are not set in the relevant section.
Tiptronic controls for example.
I got them, they work but its not coded.

I'll get on VCDS and check the part numbers and see if that says anything about it being changed.

Some cars code different things in different modules by the looks of it too.. so the car may be coded correctly, but and option also exists elsewhere for a different model, if that makes sense.

Whatever you do, don't go anywhere neat the bootloader option as that erases the MMI firmware and the only way out is to flash it again.

Secret menu!! Now that sounds interesting, how do you get into that? :p

The Audi garage that recently and assembly unneeded lay replaced my handbrake module this week, when they put it in, I've noticed that the car no longer auto hand brakes when the cars switched off, I now manually have to engage it every time I stop, which is not only not as I had it before Audi broke t, and fitted and charged me a fortune, but a car of this calibre I shouldn't be having to manually handbrake a car when the engines powered down. Is this a feature that I can engage easily in the car by using this secret menus by selecting or deselecting a tick somewhere?

To be honest as soon as I get back from Spain, which I will be leaving for in about two hours... I rally need to put aside a few days and get the car set up to how I want it, as I'm not really sure how much of it works. When I bought it the seats used move back when powered off so that you could get out and then once I got back on it would then set it back up where it puts me back in the right place for how I like to drive. This no longer does this and not sure whether I've turned it off... But picking various feature on my car interest me greatly... So if anyone is about on the 20th and wants to meet up then that would be great!

Regards, Mark.

Auto hand brake would be good.

I'm free on the 20th after work.

I think we are back on the mid day point of the 19th so time I get back home, catch up on sleep and get the all exclusive holiday alcohol out of my system the evening of the 20th sounds perfect, thank you. +++

But yeah not sure why the handbrake is manual only now, I assumed that when the main dealers replaced the module that it was going to go back as the same, but that is not the case. If there is a quick little tick we can do somewhere to make that happen then that would be awesome.

My PF had auto handbrake, but I think it was disabled in newer firmware versions, probably to reduce strain and failure rates.

ScottD3 12th August 2014 10:20 AM

I've been looking to see of a way to code it in but can't find anything.

So I guess they disabled it.

M-A8 12th August 2014 10:31 AM

Auto brake would be fantastic when switching off the engine as you always engage it anyway.

Did anyone tried looking in EPB module, coding ???

I've enabled green menu as well, but haven't played much with it other than changing MMI welcome screen.

ScottD3 12th August 2014 10:51 AM

Not yet. I might take a look at the weekend.

I don't even see my MMI welcome screen, so never bothered.

I read on the A4 or A6 section of another forum about them moaning that the car turns off when they open the drivers door with the handbrake on.
Not sure I'd like that or not.

Apart from the screen changing the MMI start up screen, what other tricks are there in the hidden menu?

M-A8 12th August 2014 11:16 AM

As far as I remember my mate had MP3 compatible disc changer but he only could play MP3s after enabling it in hidden menu.

Car turns when they open the drivers door with handbrake on????

ScottD3 12th August 2014 11:18 AM

Car turns off.
I missed the off. lol

I found this.

They did a MP3 CD changer for the A8 D3?

Apparently...there were two part numbers for CD changer for his car and he was lucky to have the one which reads MP3 CDs

A8 2003-2006 non MP3 CD
A8 2006 onwards was MP3 CD compatible.

There are basically 2 models first one ends 111 and is not MP3, the latter ends 110 and is. Another way to check is if your car has the MEDIA button on the MMI console.

It is widely thought that cars with the MEDIA button are MP3 capable.
Who else is checking their changers?

M-A8 12th August 2014 11:57 AM

That makes sense and the numbers rings the bell.
Mine is 06 and his 56 so it's as you said.

Media button, instead of CD/TV one??? Or where ??

mine is sadly Part No SW: 4E0 910 111 F HW: 4E0 035 111 A

ScottD3 12th August 2014 11:58 AM

Media button instead of the CD/TV one I guess.

Mine says CD/TV, so I'm hoping that bit is not true lol

PsYcHe 12th August 2014 12:06 PM

The CD/TV vs Media button is just the age of the panel. my PF had the panel replaced with one that had Media. Mine turns the MMI and stuff off when I open the door after turning the engine off.

Mine does that.
It also turns the MMI on if I open the door after it switched itself.

It is a shame if it is? :-( My VW CC has an auto handbrake so that anytime you bring the car to a stop with the footbrake then the handbrake comes on automatically, whether this be a three point turn, a junction, anything... now that is amazing, if there was away of getting that on the Audi, well I'd be a very happy man. More useful that you would think, easy to use as it comes off when you apply very light pressure on the accelerator.
