Hybrid TV Tuner
Thanks to IT, big cheer Ian. I now have a working TV in the car.
Everyone says 10 minutes to swap the analogue for a digital tuner - - - well not for me. Took two and a half hours of back bent leaning into the boot. Took out the navigation DVD player and the Parking Aid Module. Realised the complete audio rack would have to come out because the TV Tuner was on the rear of the rack. Disconnected the battery for safety reasons. Removed the fuse holder. Unplugged and removed the electronic thingy box from the front of the audio rack. Unfastened the audio rack, twisted and manouvered the bloooooodie thing all over the place without success. Removed all the side trim, plastic and compressed fibre. Swore loudly, woke the neighbours baby, and twisted and manouvered the rack until it finally came out. Found the TV tuner was mounted with screws on the side so this other electronic box thingy had to be removed. Finally undid the four screws and removed the analogue TV box. Now for part two. I had to do it all again but in the reverse order. Wish I could remember what fitted where!!!! Took an uneducated guess and blomin' 'eck it all went back together and I only had one nut leftover. Found where the nut belonged, tried to fit it and the ruddy nut did what nuts do and ran away behind the audio rack. Well it can stay there, no way is that sodding thing coming out again, certainly not in my lifetime!!!! Closed the boot and went indoors for a cuppa. Back to the car and the boot would not open. Panic. Used the key and managed to open the boot. After the battery was reconnected I had to reset the time clock and the car was apparently back to working order. But the TV did not work. MMI, Radio, AMI, Navigation and CD player were working. After panicking again I PM'd IT Ian, but he put me right. Basically, have patience, have a little drive and see what happens. As it said at the start of this boring missive, IT WORKS. Took management to ASDA and while SWMBO did the shopping I watched the ITV news. I love it. |
Glad is sorted, I had every confidence it would be fine. Sorry we seemed to run out of time to do it in Wales, but on reflection the DVB-T reception at the George would probably have been lousey too lol +++
Enjoy the sense of satisfaction having done it yourself, and job well done +++ |
Haha I feel your pain, after struggling for sometime with various projects that heart sinking feeling of finding something to be not right really knocks the wind out of your sails.
Then only to find later that its all OK Glad its all working for you now though Ray +++ |
Excellent work.

Nice one Ray +++
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who struggled for an hour or two getting that damn media rack out. I nearly posted on here asking for clues, but was too shy for what seemed like a 10 minute beginners job :ROFL: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...chmentid=10969 |
Aw shucks guys, you make me feel so good.
Today I took a 57 seater full of Para retirees to Bedworth for a day out. Had a good day but back home and knackered. The good bit was dropping the coach at the garage, jumping in the 8 and listening to the news on the TV. Made all the hard work so very worthwhile. BUT, ten minutes, wow!! someone has a very slow running watch. If, very BIG IF, I had to do it again I could knock maybe about thirty minutes off the job. :D |
It is defo a 10 job, maybe I'm a little practised on it....
Never mind that though, just clocked Mattys brolly holder in his boot photo, and I love it.... +++ |
There was a thread about that type of brolly holder last year.
I went with the Audi one that fits on the D3 toolbox, and managed to sweet talk an Audi black brolly out of Inchcape at Warrington. :ROFL: Lovely couple of helpful guys in the stores there. Always good for a phone chat. :love: |
I want to know how they do it.
I collected the hybrid TV tuner at the meet, sneaked it to the car and hid it. Somehow SWMBO spotted it but did not say anything for a couple of hours. Then out of the blue management asked about it. Not being known for quick thinking I muttered something about trying something new with the strange parking aid occurences. Nothing more was said or asked about it. After I demonstrated the working TV Gwen informed me that it was not a surprise 'cos she had guessed in Wales what I was up to. How do they do that????? |
How do they do it, Ray?? Who knows?? I told my SHMBO that I simply installed a new aerial and it magically worked :ROFL:
Ian, the brolly is looped through the carry bag straps and it works a treat +++ I thought these were standard equipment? A8parts have some in stock. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm//131194489743 http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Njg2WDg3MA...TeoSl/$_57.JPG |
