new disks

on recent trip to germany it became apparent that my brakes were not as good as they should be. during the trip and on a few occasions since then the car has had some bad brake fade. so i have now decided to get some new disks. on the front i have gone for ebc vented grooved and dimpled with ebc yellowstuff pads. on the rear i have gone for vented and grooved discs with yellowstuff pads. also a new fluid change with brembo lcf600 brake fluid. hopefully this will cure the problem of brake fade or i will just have to drive a bit slower

After speaking with you the other week I have now experienced some brake fade on my A8 with the same set up. It appears that the problems are to do with cooling more than the pads as such, if you get them very hot they can take a while to cool down so next time you brake they can fade a bit. You might want to consider some better ducting if its a real issue for you as we have seen how effective that is on the track car, and what a difference it made when one of the ducts became partly blocked.

the ebc vented discs are supposed to have better cooling so i am hopeing that these do some good. also both front and rear are grooved to allow gas to escape. its got to be better than my standard discs. i will just see how it goes when they are fitted. as for price andy i paid 170 for the front and 65 for the rear delivered.

A lot of RS 6 owners get a Phaeton cooling duct fitted to their cars, google 'unit 20' they fit them.

Got them on the S4. Buy them from your local VW dealer and fit them yourself - piece of cake +++

how much do they cost clive ?

CliveH 13th September 2009 06:26 PM

Phaeton ducts

3D0 615 447D - cooling duct left
3D0 615 448D - cooling duct right

3D0 615 311C - splash shield left
3D0 615 312C - splash shield right

You also need some 6mm bolts, although I'm fairly sure they came with the ducts.

About £60 all in I think Darren, but best to check they'll fit the '8 first...

The splash shields needed a bit of cutting to fit the '4
