Advert not live until 19:14 tonight

Audi A8 4.2 quattro Sport finished in silver with indigo leather interior. Specification includes:
  • Original 18" Sport alloys, including spare
  • 6 disc CD changer
  • Bose speakers & subwoofer
  • Climate control
  • Cruise control
  • Electric memory sports seats - seat returns to the correct setting when car is unlocked
  • Sport suspension
  • Xenon plus headlamps with headlight washers
  • Electric rear blind and manual rear side blinds
  • 5" colour monitor Audi Sat Nav plus, with 2002 UK map CD
  • Heated seats
  • Electric sunroof
  • Tiptronic steering wheel
  • Upgraded Natural Leather upholstery
  • Service history
  • MOT until 24/10/2011
  • Road tax to end September can be included at cost if required

I have owned the car since October 2006 and covered 35,000 miles in this time, averaging around 23mpg, which is pretty good for this type of car. Have lots of history, old receipts and MOT certificates. The bodywork and interior are all in exceptional condition, with the odd mark allowing for the age of the car, but it is way better than average condition. The engine has been regularly service and is running perfectly. The engine oil & filter were last changed less than 200 miles ago.

However, the car has now developed a faulty gearbox, probably due to the wet clutches slipping and this WILL require repair or replacement. Do not bid on this car unless you are buying with a view to repairing or replacing the gearbox, or taking parts from it for your own A8.

Recent repairs include:
  • Engine oil and filter change less than 200 miles ago.
  • The gearbox is full of brand new oil, and has a new filter, but this has not resolved the problem.
  • All 4 wheels re-balanced less than 200 miles ago - the alloys will require some refurbishment if you are a perfectionist
  • 4 tyre have around 4mm tread, spare will need a new tyre
  • Both front lower rear suspension arms replaced
  • One of the output flange seals replaced - the one that drips oil into the catalyst
  • Reconditioned steering rack, tie rod ends & front upper track control arms (October 2009 at approx 110,000 mile mark) together with steering angle sensor
  • Brake fluid service (21/10/2009)
  • Wheel alignment (21/10/2009)
Other than the gearbox fault, the bad:
  • Wipers need replacing
  • Offside door mirror glass discoloured
  • Nearside door mirror cap cracked
  • Alternator belt just starting to show signs of wear
  • Very slight oil leak around sump area
  • Oil leak from the other, rear output flange seal
  • Some lacquer degradation in a couple of spots, but nothing major
  • Fuel filler cap needs paint
  • Alloys could use some refurbishment

This would make an ideal project car for somebody willing to have the gearbox replaced or reconditioned, or as a source car for spares for your own existing A8.

There is a reserve set, if it doesn't make the reserve then I will get a new gearbox myself and keep the car for a few more years as it is in exceptional condition and is easily the best car I've ever owned, beautiful car to drive and is relatively cheap to run and tax.

All inspections welcome, but although the car can be driven in 'limp mode', naturally the faulty gearbox means that a test drive is unlikely.

Please also remember that if you are the winning bidder, you will need to think about transporting the car due to the faulty gearbox - it could possibly be driven a short distance in limp mode, but I would not recommend it. I will not deliver the car, it is pick-up/collection only. All non-paying winners will be pursued. No returns accepted, the car is sold as seen for spares or repair with no warranties or guarantees given nor implied.

Any more questions, please message me

Good luck selling Steve...

Audrey? - can we start a (nick)names thread?. I'm happy to add another:

Herman (the German...) ;)

sarg 17th June 2011 04:58 PM

'Audrey' because I've always to liked to think the sat nav voice is Audrey Hepburn, doesn't sound anything like her of course, just my imagination :)

"Meine kleine Schwartze Schwein" for it's ability to barge through london traffic like a pig diving for the trough. DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA ETC.

Current one is "schnuckle putsch". term of endearment I've heard used in German families.

Feeling your pain sarge :(

OK guys, think I am going to sell to the current highest phone bidder who was in touch again today, if anyone still interested then pls contact me by Monday afternoon, I will let it go then and finish the ebay auction early.

Singh 19th June 2011 10:58 PM

Finish it early to avoid eBay charges, sorry I won't be able to go much higher. Go get yourself another '8 +++

Sale has been agreed, waiting for holding deposit before it comes off ebay.

Have really struggled with this decision, at one point today I was pulling out and having a new gearbox fitted instead.
