Cheap sporty exhaust... and I mean CHEAP!

I've been enjoying driving my S8 around for a while now but I can't hear the engine.

As other people have replaced the rear silencer with straight pipes, I thought I'd have a go myself.

2 x 55mm Stainless lengths with a 45o bend from ebay

Cheap 55mm stainless pipes

I've looked at tailpipes and I would end up spending another £25 on top so I decided to use the stock tailpipe.

Starting point...

Starting cutting...

No turning back now.

Pipes

They come with a flared end which slips over the stock size exhaust pipes.

First pipe tack welded to the tailpipe and checking on position etc.

Pipes welded up and ready to go on.

I added a hanger on top which sits into the stock mounts and clamped it down.

The result is a nice V8 burble.

It is a little boomy inside at around 1800-2000rpm but otherwise it's not too noisy and sounds lovely :D

The look is stock from outside.

Total cost, £47 plus a couple of hours welding and cutting.

..... and you *still* claim you havnt fallen in love with the old girl and that you're going to break her..... ;)

Fixing the gearbox was a forgivable necessity, and fitting LPG was a vaguely plausible requirement - but - struggling to see how you're going to explain away the need to change the exhaust note for testing purposes :D

Heheh ok I've fallen in love with the car to an extent but it won't stop me from getting what I want from it... THE ENGINE!!!!

I love the sound of a V8 and this has given me that... although it's just about guaranteed to lower the mpg... not because it'll cause any problems with fuelling but because I love the sound tooooo much :D

Just out of curiosity what did you weld the stainless pipes with?

Syncro, a video clip is an absolute MUST! +++

Not sure if that's possible now as the fuel pump has just died.

Still no video? Dying to hear this because I've been thinking of doing this to Fatty

Sorry guys,

The fuel pump died shortly after I did the exhaust... Like 3 days later! So no video.

Nollywood has put first dibs on the silencer bypass pipes so once he fits them, you should get a good video then.

Exhaust bypass pipes are now for sale. Nollywood hasn't come back to me so they're available if anyone is interested.

I'll even throw in the sleeves so that you can swap between stock or bypass pipes easily.
