Foglight error

On my audi A8 d2 3.3 TDI the fog lights just stopped working one day. The fuse on the passenger side is ok, aswell as the bulbs. What is the problem?
When i push the foglight switch nothing happens, its dead. not even a light comes on inside dashboard.

Any ideas?

relay or wiring broken?

Karstad 23rd July 2012 06:10 PM

don't think its the wiring because it happened so fast. i started the engine, switched one the lights and hit the foglight switch. The green light came on for less then a second and haven't worked since.

Where can i find the relay?

Where can i find the relay?

Its on the relay board (item 2 on the pic shown) which is under a wooden cover plate in the passenger footwell
Relay is part No 8D0907701A
control unit for fog lights and rear fog light / relay location/code no.:

Does anyone know how to get the foglight switch out?
think the switch is broken since the rear foglight switch works.

its just a slow lever job with a trim tool or screwdriver to each side of the switch and it will pop out - but make sure you protect the wood carefully +++

You might find it easier to prise out the centre vent above - it is just pushed in so comes out easily without the need to undo anything - use a flat blade butter knife or similar and work it out a centimetre at a time at each end. Once you have it out there should be just enough cable on the vent to settle it upside down on the dashboard then you can simply push the switches out from behind the wood trim.

It might sound a long winded way but the switches arent that easy to get out from the front in our experience

i removed the vent and it was no problem, thanks.
Nothing wrong with the switch tho :( I'm all out of ideas now..

Use a multi meter to find where you have 12volts or not as the case may be.

As you have the switch out how did you test it?

How did you check the relay?

I'd start at the foglamps themselves - there should be 12v across the 2 wires with ign on, switch on and sidelights on.
