Yup, and as it is the power grid is stretched to capacity. The worst nightmare would be everybody buying these things and plugging them into charge.....

It wouldn't be too bad if they were charged off-peak and/or via some managed system, but in our society I can't see that happening. :tuttut: I must admit that when we were looking at putting solar panels on our roof a while back I did also consider using the surplus daytime power to charge an electric vehicle of some sort. Another project that never got "off the ground". :o |
I always thought putting them on charge would be an issue. A large proportion of the poppulation have trouble parking in there own street, let alone within extension lead distance. Then there are those that live in flats or tower blocks. It's completely infessible for a large proportion of society to have electric cars they can recharge overnight at home.

Could be a very inexpensive way of motoring, plug into your neighbours electrical supply +++

Or run it off the street lights :)

They should have easily exchangeable standard batteries like forklifts so that you can just drive in something like a petrol station, swap you empty/half empty for a charged one and pay whatever you have used on old one.
