EML Secondary Air Injection flow to low
I had the following codes appear which triggered the EML.
17831 - Secondary air injection system - Bank 1 - flow too low 17819 - Secondary air injection system - Bank 2 - flow too low After researching on the internet and here, I decided to investigate the vaccuum lines. As I didnt have a vaccuum tester, I just pulled off individual vaccuum pipes and put my finger at one end and blew on the other end. In doing this, I was able to find the leaking vaccuum pipe and resolve the problem. Other than triggering the EML, this fault caused no running issues, and really was just an annoyance. Thought I would add this here, as the vaccuum hoses on our engines will be starting to get a bit frail and tatty and issues like this are likely to occur. |
Hey Ranj,
I have this same issue. The SAIs are at the back of each head and add air to the exhaust flow to help warm up the cats at the time of engine start. Failure can be due to secondary air pump or the injectors on each head. With both showing, I'd start with the pump. If the pump is fine the remove and wash out the injectors in v hot soapy water (not a degreasant) and reafix. Its not terminal, but will shorten the cats life. HtHs |
