Sunroof removal
I decided to open my sunroof yesterday. Don't know why but it was the first time in about three years I'd done this. Anyway, it only opened a few inches then stopped. It won't open any further and worst of all it won't close. I tried closing it manually using the allen key winder on the motor but It's firmly stuck. I think a cable has come adrift somewhere and has jammed. As I live in Dubai and not suffering the rain, wind and gales you guys are getting my car flooded is not a problem, but I still need to sort it. I think removing the sunroof itself should be easy enough once I've got the headlining out but how do I do that? Also, is there anything else I need to know?
Thanks chaps Steve |
You don't need to remove the headlining if it's a D2. Let us know and, if it's a D2, we can point you in the right direction

Yep. It's a D2. I didn't know you could do this without removing the headlining. This is good news.
Thanks very much. Steve |
Sorted it. I took the headlining out which was, er, interesting. Took the sunroof out and discovered part of the slider mechanism at the back had broken and jammed. I've now managed to close the sunroof but it's pretty much useless. It's now rattling like a babies rattle and very annoying. I don't want to try opening it as with a broken slider it could well jam again. I may just cure the rattle and disconnect it. I never use it, or I may replace it. How easy is it to remove the panel? If I do replace the sunroof complete then I would want to put in my existing solar panel.

Talk to A8 parts as they may be able to help with the slider parts that you need +++

A. I have a D2 sunroof tray (from which I have removed the glass/solar panel for fitting in my car), and, B. I shall be passing through Dubai next monday on route to Perth. Will be staying overnight but within the hotel "airside" so not going out through arrival. If the parts are small and can fit in cabin baggage and there is a way of getting small parts through the hotel, (a Big if) then I can deliver. PM if this a possibility. |
Had a chat with Carl at A8parts. He has a full sunroof available but the smaller parts would be more difficult. I'm just going to put it back in place and disconnect it. I never use it anyway.
