Translucent cables in boot loom?
 

Hi all.
Just about to remove my boot (A8 D2) and after being unable to find a local disconnect point (and not wanting to pull all the cable from the boot), Ive decided to chop the wires and reconnect. Theres a couple of inch play within the boot to allow for this.
There's 10 elec cables in the loom (where the loom enters the boot from rear wing) and 2 clear, rubbery, cables?
Any ideas anyone?

I assume you mean the boot lid.... Which side is this? Could it be air tube for the central locking?

Yes....boot lid.
The loom is on the offside of the boot lid. It's the only cable/loom that enters the boot lid on that side.
On the nearside of the lid, there are 2 cables/tubes entering the boot lid - the gps aerial cable and the vacuum pipe for the locking.
Re the cable loom, on the offside, there's 10 coloured cables and 2 clear cables. After googling this and getting nowhere, I decided to just go for the cut - they must be some sort of cable reinforcement, or protectors to prevent loom stretch or excessive bending.......I don't know really?
Anyway, boot lid off and now sprayed. Loom reconnection tomorrow.

Chris, D2 central locking is air powered. The clear tubes are most likely for operating the central locking on the boot.

The boot is now refitted......pic to follow.
These clear cables are some sort of the loom construction. They are very thin. There are 10 elec wires in that loom, which feeds into the offside of the boot.
The nearside of the boot houses the vacuum tube (black) and GPS antenna cable.
The boot paintwork looks lovely now.....standby for pics.

I knew it was the GPS cable that side because I had to do some work on that on my PF S8. Never looked at the other one until today, but you are of course correct. :cool:

PS Which bit of Bucks (I may have asked before)? I'm down South (Chalfont).

I think I may have contacted you, just over 2 yrs ago, when I was looking at D2 S8s. I ended up buying a D3 4.2.....which I sold 2 months ago, with the aim of buying an A6 4.2 avant (or RS6 avant if at the right price, with the right history). As a stop-gap car, I was lucky enough to buy Manny's old D2 3.7 sport. The idea was only to keep it until I got the A6 I wanted, however, since buying it....I've fallen in love with the old girl!
Anyway.....I'm waffling on. In answer to your question, I live in a High Wycombe.
Not a million miles from yourself.
