Ignition Feed
Does anyone know if there is a ignition feed in the around the head control unit that's safe for powering a dash cam?
I'm thinking of the sunroof motors. |
I don't know how the D3 is wired but I used the sunroof power to run an auto-dimming interior mirror on my old (PF) D2.
It was just a matter of rummaging around with a multimeter to identify a suitable supply that wasn't always live. In the end I found a very convenient one that appeared to be permanent but actually only stayed live for a minute or two after turning the ignition off, presumably to allow for closing afterwards or on the remote. I'd guess the D3 is similar, so worth testing. |
That would be a good one.
I don't mind routing around but there is so many plugs and cables up round there. |

I found an ignition feed.
3rd pin in on the picture. Does anyone know what this plug is for? |
Think I found it.

I used that for mine (seemed to be the only one in there that was 12v IGN) but had to solder my ground to the contact for the bulb as I just couldn't get an earth from a wire and got fed up.

Cool.
You don't happen to know a part number for the plug? I'll sit down on ETKA tomorrow to try and find it. |
Its all installed and working fine.
I used this little port off the heads up controls. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psb88598cd.jpg Used the proper Audi Plug and cables, then connected them to a random mobile phone charging cable I had which fitted the Camera. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...ps2nimxxld.jpg Put it all back together and it ended up like this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psoe4gbmkz.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...psb3wwy5hg.jpg All in and working. |
That's one tidy install Scott, what did the port you used do or is for?

Its listed as some light sensor.
It has a 12v ignition feed, earth and 2 more pins, which I assume are canbus. |
