Air leaks?

Car: 1996 A8 4.2 auto

So im getting some **** poor mpg at the moment. Driving like an absolute OAP im getting 16.9mpg at best. Thats a mixture of 40 and 60 mph roads.

I have noticed a split (read hole) in one of the crankcase breather pipes. Now im not getting any engine surging or cutting out like you would normally associate with an air leak so have ignored it. BUT it leads me to start thinking it is upsetting the mixture?

Thoughts?

Have you given it a scan?

No, will do that first

Ok, so scanning brings up codes of mixture adaptation so im assuming the split crankcase pipe is letting in air after the MAF. So surely isnt the engine going to run a weak mixture with that extra air going in OR are the oxygen sensors picking this up and causing things to richen up

Going to replace the pipe/clear codes and report back
