Renovating my 20's
2 Attachment(s)
Currently they are powder coated gunmetal grey, as below, which I do like. But I also like a high polish finish. I think the process to get this is hochglanzverdichten (I don't know the English word for it). One of the wheels has a kerb mark which I'll repair. But afterwards is a repaired rim suitable for this hochglanzverdichten process, or is a powder coat the way to go?

I don't see why they would not be suitable but they need to be very smooth before polishing so any damage or corrosion would need to be welded in sanded down first. Could get quite expensive depending on condition of wheels with welding repair starting at £65 per wheel and mirror polishing £110 per wheel. And they do take a lot of care to keep in good condition. A friend of mine had polished wheels on BMW and he was washing, hand polishing and sealing wheels every week. And every couple of weeks take them off to do the inside as well. And only using them during summer, could not risk any salt getting on them during winter.

Thanks ainarssems +++ Food for thought for sure, especially about the high upkeep. Have found this picture while searching and looks a little odd to me. Maybe a highly polished finished doesn't suit, or it's the offset on them rims.

The factory 'diamond cut' finish isn't as highly polished as the examples posted above, but is high maintenance for sure. I think the wheels get to a point where it's virtually impossible to maintain a diamond cut due to past damage etc.
I've seen diamond cut on a dolphin grey D2 and they looked really good, but against avus or other light silvers I think powdercoated is more in keeping |
I mentioned to you before about Aerocoat, it may be worth a visit to there place they have a chrome effect powder coat that's not bright like real chrome but looks sweet, they have a rim to show what it looks like in the flesh along with others like the finish on mine.

I went in between, it's a black powder coat with silver wet spray which gives a dark glossy silver effect, he has that to see what it looks like too

heres a brand new factory diamond cut wheel out of the box to show you the factory finish

That is a bit too much
How about OEM Audi's PolyChrome finish ??? It in between the silver and that fully polished look from the picture you have posted earlier I think it was a standard finish on RS4 models |
