20" tyre sizes
Hi.
Finally off to view/buy those 20" alloys, previously mentioned, on Sunday. I just thought I'd do the maths on the tyre sizes........... My current tyres (255/40 18) give a rolling circumference of 207.7 CM. The new tyres (265/40/20) give a rolling circum of 226.2 CM......Unless I've done my maths wrong! This is quite a difference! Has anyone here jumped from 255/40/18 to a similar sized (265/40) on a 20" wheel, or have they opted for a smaller profile to get the circumference closer. Or...........is it not an issue in the whole scheme of things? Obviously, the speedo would under read a tad. Thanks |
Is this for the D2 or D3? 255/40R18 seems small for either......

What's the width of the wheels? That plays on what tyres you fit. 255/45/18 is the correct size for the D3s with 8j wheels. The fuel cap lists the correct sizes for each size OEM alloys for D3s. |

I put 255/40/18 because they are the tyres (on genuine RS6 rims) that I currently have for sale - I've brainwashed myself!! So - thanks for pointing that out. The car is a D3 and the tyres are 255/45/18. This makes the circumference 215.76 cm, which closes the gap a tad. |

Just corrected my previous mistake re tyre size - oops! The car I have is a D3 and the potential 20" rims are 9" wide. The tyres already fitted to them are 265/40/20. These are D4 alloys so will require a spigot ring to take up the bigger wheel bore. |
I have 255/35 on 8.5J and 295/30 on 10J
I think 275/35 was original audi spec tyre for 20" wheels |
Yep... 275/35/20 or I think the S8 was fitted with 265/35/20. Either will fit a 9" rim. +++

I opted for 275/35's. Higher profile for more comfort and 5mm less arch gap!
