I'm lost!
Got into my other car (Focus) today and the SatNav knows where I am but can't explain to me as I'm "off map".
It can tell me that I'm 5423 miles from the nearest road (map covers UK and major roads of Europe) This figure updates consistently as I travel so it definitely thinks I'm "somewhere". I haven't been far enough yet to try and triangulate where it thinks I am, or even if it's on the Earths surface!

Polestar performance "optimisation".  (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!  Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course.  (internal dimming mirror added later)1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Can you place a "flag" in the current position and then interrogate it for positon info?

Sadly no, it's an old system. I can't even see how many satellites it's found.
But today it's working again so I'm assuming the aerial is a bit "iffy" - ordered a spare one (less than a tenner) which has just arrived, so next time I'll swap it - if it ever happens again. I've seen many odd messages from GPS systems, but never one that put me over 5,000 miles away!
