Default Estimates on output shaft seal replacement.

So after getting my a8 back on the road and sorted for the mot (except the fuel pump) today was the day. Turned up at the mot station and put her on the ramp. 10 minutes later the mechanic comes out and says "whats on fire" had smoke pouring from the cat so was obviously refused. I knew it was leaking but i didnt think it was that bad. So what prices has everyome been charged to get theres replaced? Can anyome recomened anybody in the stockport area? I may end up selling yet, £1000 anyone?

Think HPSauce had his done this week or last - hopefully will be able to say what the bill was, although it'll be with South East loading on labour rates!

Yesterday in fact, got it back today.
BUT I had both the rear and drivers side leaking and the pan. AND I had the fluid & filter changed as well, which requires removing the exhaust/catalysts on an FL D2 S8.
Also had the middle and rear diffs topped up as they are seeping very slightly (not enough to bother fixing, just top up).
Loadsa labour so loadsamoney.

The seals were cheap enough, one was £12.44 the other £22.41 (+VAT).
And you might need the gearbox topping up, that's about £12 a litre.
Hour or 2 of labour maybe to get one wheel off, do whatever you need to to the drive shaft to replace the seal and put it all back, then check and top up the gearbox - I'm no expert!

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (Even rarer than a D2 S8!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Depends entirely on where you live and if it's a local garage or main dealer - anything from £40-140 an hour!

You do really need someone who is familiar with the construction of the car.
I think I'm paying about £60/hr plus VAT for labour and they're a VAG specialist with all the tools and knowledge.
