I think people here are being honest.
These big old barges aren't worth much when they're working, even less with expensive problems. Have a guess how much the 2 in my signature pic are worth - the grey one I sold (1998, 130000m) and the dark green one I bought (2003 70000m) both in January. Both are well-loaded S8's.

I would tend to agree with Ian, have you asked the forum sponsors what they might give you for it? oh and have to suggest your definition of mint for the interior is a bit dubious
![]() wouldnt even call mine mint and think it is in better condition

The only thing fairly easy to sell and worth something are wheels. There is no demand for seats, maybe drivers seat can make £50 if in good condition and somebody buys it as replacement for worn seat, rest are pretty much worthless. Forum member recently gave away front seats for free, not sports seats but none the less. I had a chance to buy full set of half leather half alcantara seats as upgrade for £100 but decided not to. There is no demand for body panels. Nobody buys engine as replacement as too costly comparing to value of car and if doing retrofit in another car or kit car it makes sense to pay a bit more and get 4.2 so 3.7 is basically only worth scrap metal price. Your only hope is that some car dealer from Eastern Europe buys it and exports it to brake for parts as they are much more worth there than in UK.

For my sins I own a '98 PF 4.2 QS bought as a project car. I was looking to buy quite a few bits 'n' bobs from A8 parts I'd got the bill up to the several hundred pounds mark (plus P&P). Then I had a chance conversation at a petrol station of all places, with a local farmer, end result I now own another 4.2 QS in the very same Racing Green paintwork that I'll be using for spares. There's nothing at all wrong with the car other than the fact that it's owner stated that it costs too much to insure and run. It's even taxed and MOT'd up to the end of May. It cost me £480.00 It would have £450.00 but the owner had just put £30.00 worth of petrol in the tank (We met by chance in a petrol station) The car's done 140,000 ish miles. These cars can be bought for peanuts and are worth far more if broken for parts. I'm lucky enough to have a large garage/workshop where this car can be stored indoors and have parts removed as required. If my roadworthy 8 was damaged or written off the 'garage queen' could even be re-built and returned to roadworthy status. Exactly the same as we used to do to countless airframes during my RAF days.
S8's are a different matter I'm currently stalking a Pearl White one. It's a one owner (retired high ranking RAF Officer my old boss) and 17,000 mile from new example, I've known this car since the day it was delivered to the gates of RAF Waddindton. It'll be mine by the middle of the year, it's being replaced by a White Audi A1 TDi Sportback. Having said all that I'm still looking to buy an electric rear blind for my car. I've got one fitted but it refuses to retract, how big a job are these to replace? |
