Had a look under the carpet and can see a black plastic box, cannot seem to open the lid as the clearance is difficult while holding the carpet back.

An "Assistant"/"Volunteer" to hold the carpet pulled back whilst you get the lid off the plastic box would help. From memory the protective box is black plastic and about 8"x8" square, maybe 3" deep. It will have lots of wiring connected inside the box ( fibre optic for mmi, power, microphone etc.) Once everything is unplugged, the module is easily removed. If you can note the Audi part number on the module, a "Google" search will confirm what you have.
If you end up replacing the module, it will need coding with VCDS to enable it. |

Just for information, should anyone be reading this with interest later [as I did] ...
The ECUs for the phone system sit under the passenger side carpet and can be tricky to get at. The original phone ECU was part 4E0 862 333 and integrated a phone system into the car with a microphone in the mirror[?] and used the car speakers as the 'speaker'. It had a 'full size' SIM carrier [supporting 2G only] in the arm and an optional Motorola handset in the arm which used Bluetooth to connect to the ECU, the aerial for which was in the arm too. In VCDS, this ECU is described as "Telefonmodul EU". The later model dispensed with the Motorola handset cradle in the arm and the ECU was 4E0 862 335. This was designed to communicate via Bluetooth with any compatible cell phone. In VCDS, this ECU is described as "Handyvorb2". In the famous set of thee CDs for the 5510/5570 upgrade in 2008, both CD1 [5510] and CD3 [5570] had the latest ECU firmware for for the original 'built in' system at level 770, although this level had been around since June 2005. CD2 had the latest levels for the Bluetooth 'Handyvoorb2" ECU [which seemed to need to be 'run' at least twice and is reported to have 'corrupted' some units! |
