We're heading to Bruges tomorrow for the weekend - plan is to fill up before leaving here and make sure we top up in Belgium before we get back to France

We're taking the S5 which has a tiny tank and pitiful economy so you're generally looking for a fuel station after 200 miles!

I have also reverted to the 2015 disc but am finding that TMC is a bit hit and miss. Certainly not as good as it used to be.

Wrong way driving I have actually seen twice, both in France and on the Peage. One near Nice and one just south of Paris.

Best of luck with the fuel situation.

im going to poitier on Saturday, also filling up in uk which i dont usually as deisel is cheaper in france. but have the advantage that should have enough to go the entire distance without a problem in the d4

Oscar reckons he got from switzerland to home in west london on 1 tank of juice in this car, albeit with the air con etc switched off and cruising easy etc.

might not get back though if the strike goes on, thats a shame

Aren't we all on our travels!

I reckon I could stretch to 600 miles on the D3's 90L tank. Depends how fast we drive. With the price of diesel being cheaper we tend to derive everywhere at 85mph and get 35mpg, but we may have to be a bit more sedate and aim for ~40mpg.

So it's not a massive problem getting as far south as the Perigord, but we had planned to go around Carcassonne again. So we may have to play that by ear.

i was always pretty sure i could squeeze Leeds to Poitiers in the D3 3L, it may have been tight so never risked it as there is sometimes quite long distances between stations over that side of the water. and so far the D4 4.2 seems to be as good or slightly better than my d3 on fuel. at least on a good run.

We'll be shoehorning a 20L Jerrycan in the boot too. So I guess another 150 miles range. (Don't tell Chunnel staff)

Good luck to us all on our travels.

Good luck. I remember my parents went there on a motorbike in September 2000 UK fuel duty strikes and had to carry petrol in evian bottles in a backpack!

My next fast weekender over the water will not be for a few months. I'll be attending a wedding in Valkenburg, Holland (Just east of Maastricht) on first of October.
Plan to leave Wigan at silly o'clock on Friday 30th September with a full tank and travel via Chunnel and Brussels. Should be able to do that on one tank.
Sunday 2nd return again on one tank.

Carrying jerry cans reminds me of when in Germany we had very cheap fuel(one shilling per gallon) I used to fill six cans at the last BP station in Aachen and the tank. This meant that I could last at least two weeks in UK without buying fuel and even hopefully reach Aachen before needing more. We could only use the fuel ration coupons at BP in Germany.
Big factor was that we used Ostend - Dover mailboat crossing that did not have a ramp, we were loaded onto the aft deck by crane. I even managed to do service and starter motor change during one crossing. Lot different these days with rollon/rolloff and stricter conditions.

The channel tunnel website is reporting that there is no problem for fuel at the total garage just outside the terminal on the french side. or on many of the major motorways, still wont risk it but the media may be over egging the situation.

My family havent had any probs filling up the last couple of days around poitier, though when it all started the garages were doing a 30 euro per car at a time thing.

Indeed. Family of mine in the Limousin have had no trouble buying diesel this week too. I'm in two minds as to take extra fuel in a can. It's not exactly safe, and I think illegal to enter France with more than 10L in a can.
